Just watching a young woman who had to wait 6 fucking weeks to get her money, so lost her child's nursery place and her job!

It's a fucking disgrace and hopefully May's own side will rebel

I am an ex DWP civil servant, I would to remind everyone of the time the Child Support Agency had to actually shut down for a number of months after the introduction of a new system/database they paid millions for. And the very reason why they have been, migrating UV claimants over bit by bit, to test if it works in practise. Which UV currently is not a fit for purpose model, on every level, it's yet another great idea/model conjured up by some economics graduate and the long gone Ian Duncan Smith who have no grass roots experience.

Exactly the same reason DWP are still using a black and green database the (DCI System/Database) that was introduced in the 80's and why jobcentre staff turn the screen around, on clients, when accessing it, as the new fangled JSA/New Deal System/Database was not fit for purpose and could not handle the volume of traffic/claimants as required to date & is basically useless.

No system/database has been truly fit to replace it, despite technological advances and the billions paid.

...and, just to further grind the heel of contempt into their faces:

That is, if if they can find a provider who can afford to offer it.

Feckitall · 19/10/2017 09:29

DS1 has MH issues, his relationship broke down, had to move out of the family home, he lost his bedsit, was homeless, wouldn't come here because of his health...started to get back on track. no help from anyone apart from me only obstacles ..it took so long to get UC/HB sorted he lost the bedsit he managed to find. He has given up on the claim, and is sofa surfing/rough sleeping and doing agency jobs on a day to day basis hoping to get enough together to find a room shithole as he can't get references/go through official landlords. His ex refuses to let him see his DC...If he makes his 30th birthday I will be amazed..Sad Angry

gluteustothemaximus · 19/10/2017 11:59

If he makes his 30th birthday I will be amazed

Oh, god, this is awful Sad

DH and I were talking this morning about this, and how so many people won't have a way out. It's so sad.

raisinsarenottheonlyfruit · 19/10/2017 14:13

Feckital I'm so sorry to hear your brother and your family are going through such a tough time.

The safety net should be there for him. It's despicable that it isn't in this day and age. I'm so angry for you.

M4Dad · 19/10/2017 14:15

Correct me if I'm wrong but in the 80's was there a catalog called Universal Credit?

dementedpixie · 19/10/2017 14:32

Whoever wrote the child benefit post is talking crap. It is separate to other benefits and is open for all to claim. If you claim it and earn over £50k then you would be subject to the high income benefit charge and would have to pay some back. Once you reach £60k it would all have to be paid back. Alternatively you can apply for it but not take the payment. It is unrelated to Universal Credit

PeachMelbaPud · 19/10/2017 15:19

Child benefit is counted as income under UC, just like it was for income support.

PeachMelbaPud · 19/10/2017 15:23

Unearned income, that should be. So is spousal maintenance.

dementedpixie · 19/10/2017 15:29

You mean when talking about the benefit cap?

Happyemoji · 19/10/2017 15:36

Great Universal the catalogue was called.

lubeybooby · 19/10/2017 15:42

dementedpixie yes but then the fact you have it is taken into consideration when deciding the UC amount a claimant should receive and the equivalent amount (to CB) is then cut out of the claimants UC

swings and roundabouts...

LoislovesStewie · 19/10/2017 15:48

I am old enough to remember Supplementary Benefit; as I recall it could be claimed to top up income if on a very low income but was also used to claim payments for rent as there was no HB . The end results were ;payments took ages to be paid, landlords would serve notice because arrears would accrue and there was no guarantee that the rent element would be paid . So some bright spark decided it would be better to have HB administered by local authorities. It seems we just go round in circles with MP's having no idea why an idea did not work.

MrsJayy · 19/10/2017 15:52

It is a bloody disgrace i know somebody who changed over when her child went to school she was without money bar CB for 7 weeks had to go and live at her mums and lived off foodbank but hey they made the phone number freephone whoopdefuckingdoo Angry

MrsJayy · 19/10/2017 15:55

I had to turn the tv off yesterday when theresa was bleating on about people finding work to feed their families she had not a clue

LoislovesStewie · 19/10/2017 16:07

The main problem is that most MP's have no idea how the rest of us have to live our lives; they cannot comprehend that the poor/very poor quickly become destitute when they lose their job etc. I can only think that in their minds we all have thousands sitting in the bank for such an occasion. They cannot understand that there people who survive ( just) from payday to payday and anything that causes a hiccup is catastrophic . And please don't get me started on food banks ! I appreciate the kindness of the donors but surely the point of any government is to care for the most needy and ensure that no-one starves or cannot keep a roof over their head or keep warm in winter?

FaithHopeCharityDesperation · 19/10/2017 16:07

Child benefit is counted as income under UC, just like it was for income support.

It’s not.

^Unearned income that won’t be taken off your Universal Credit payment includes:

Child Benefit
Maintenance payments
Disability Living Allowance
Personal Independence Payment
Income from boarders and lodgers.^

dementedpixie · 19/10/2017 16:11

From .gov website

Child Benefit will continue to be paid separately and will not affect your Universal Credit payments.

dementedpixie · 19/10/2017 16:15

But then another page says it does affect the benefit cap:

www.gov.uk/benefit-cap

FaithHopeCharityDesperation · 19/10/2017 16:28

To be fair, a lot of people on benefits (outwith London) can only dream of getting enough to push them over the cap.

I get child tax credits & child benefit which comes to just over £8k per year as a single mum of 2 - a long way short of £20k.

I don’t pay rent/mortgage though, so don’t get HB.
Having to pay rent (and therefore receive HB) is what would push me up toward the cap.

Ifailed · 19/10/2017 16:37

I don't understand why people are whinging about this on here, it's been well know for years that there was a 6 week wait, yet still the vast majority of adults either couldn't be arsed to vote in the last general election or voted Tory. (30% didn't bother, 42% voted tory).

You get what you deserve, and if that sounds harsh, it's meant to.

Rufustherenegadereindeer1 · 19/10/2017 16:39

ifailed

People can whinge

This forum is full of people whinging

"I had to turn the tv off yesterday when theresa was bleating on about people finding work to feed their families she had not a clue"

Ha. See how UC is already being reframed as an out of work benefit (like DLA was) but its not because working tax credit is included in the changeover. So they are trying to say that its only the out of work thats affected in the hope their core voters will believe it and not look into it any deeper ( lets face it though a lot of their core vote will have children and grandchildren who WILL be affected ) or they are now reframing part time workers as scroungers. Its one or the other.

Maybe its a bit of both.

HelenaDove · 19/10/2017 16:44

Feck it that is horrendous Sad
