What an awful story.

Surely a doctor should be able to tell a woman is six months pregnant just by looking at her. What the hell was he doing? Tragic

It was definitely the doctors fault and I really feel for that woman, but would you go for an examination where you had no way of communicating with the doctor? Sounds a bit naive to me.

Seems a bit odd that she was a french national and couldn't speak a word of french.

Surely he should have been prosecuted for assault and struck off for negligence? Absolutely appalling. Reminds me of the case of the family who discovered they'd buried the wrong body because the hospital had got two John Somethings confused.

He sounds either stupid or evil. As Heartinthecountry says, except in very exceptional circumstances, you don't need to be a bloody doctor to diagnose somebody as being six months pregnant! It sounds to me like he just didn't care - he couldn't be bothered to make enquiries to find out why a pregnant looking patient needed to have a coil removed. A cursory look at her medical notes would have explained everything, and it wouldn't have mattered that she can't speak French.

Given the recent "mothers who didn't know they were pregnant" thread, it is possible she didn't look pregnant.

This isn't an excuse, however. It's a horrible story.
