Charlie Gard (16) Future implications arising from case

If anyone wants to post, perhaps we could consider what implications today's case might have for others in future ... ?

It's post-truth, innit, Seeing? No objective reality exists outside of your own beliefs, your own 'truth'. No one can tell you otherwise. Terrifying. And bolstered by the 'research' you can do in all the corners of the Internet and whip out 'experts' and papers and all sorts from which to extrapolate and 'prove' your 'truth'. Further bolstered and emboldened by social media hangers-on. And of course this 'truth' is only validated if it is played out in the full glare of publicity.

It's really sobering.

officeshoes · 25/07/2017 15:38

Part of me just wishes that the poor little chap would just slip away whilst they were all bloody arguing the toss

IdentifiesAsYoda · 25/07/2017 15:38

I have to say, that's what it reminds me of too

friendlysnakehere · 25/07/2017 15:39

I have full confidence in the professionals at GOSH to still provide the family with a respectful and private end to Charlie's life if the family can work with them.

I don't think the family will though and the judge must make an order.

This is a welfare issue.

Nina several of us have said similar to you but been shouted down.
The judge's comments about people having an opinion on social media without having full knowledge of the facts - people here would believe that's about Charlie's Army. But it's not. It's Charlie's Army and the 15,000 posts all making suppositions on here too. And other posts like it.

TheNightmanCometh · 25/07/2017 15:40

TheNightmanCometh, there was never a proper plan for the Hirano business. No logistics were put in place, no hospital was booked, there has been no evidence of how he was to get to the US or what was to happen when/if he got there. It was all pie in the sky.

This seems similar

I don't quite agree, they did at least have a clinician and mode of treatment in mind. If that was pie in the sky, this is even a degree below that. They don't seem to have even identified a doctor who would be willing to take responsibility for his care at home now.

friendlysnakehere · 25/07/2017 15:40

Can we please ignore Nina now? To come on to a thread such as this purely to cause trouble is low.

Butterymuffin · 25/07/2017 15:40

Don't bother justifying the thread, folks. It's not worth it and will just cause a bunfight which is probably the aim. Walk on by those posts. MNHQ will moderate as they see fit.

LovelyBath77 · 25/07/2017 15:41

I usually put radio 6 on to escape the news etc so that was really strange that news flash. It was the only story mentioned and such an odd comment about bringing home for a bath Hmm then straight into the music again. Very odd.

MissHavishamsleftdaffodil · 25/07/2017 15:41

CatherineGlennFoster‏ @cateici 1h1 hour ago
Gollop: GOSH amenable to sending him home "if practicable." Talking about security personnel, police escort...avoiding "sudden mishap."

That makes more sense. Also according to CGF, GOSH's proposal was in line with the MNetters here who know about transfer teams: that C would arrive home and be extubated about an hour later.

TheFairyCaravan · 25/07/2017 15:41

@Vinny_LBC tweeted

CY has just shouted to GOSH barrister Katie Gollop "let us get what we want for once" on way out

officeshoes · 25/07/2017 15:43

If only it were that easy

ShatnersWig · 25/07/2017 15:43

The reason these threads are so important, as we have said on previous ones, is because they are potentially HUGE implications and fallout following this case - especially when the parents want to use the money raised to campaign for greater parental rights. Events like today which we are discussing show why many of us do not think greater parental rights are required. It should NEVER be about parental rights. It should ALWAYS be about the child's best interests and I'm afraid parents are rarely medical experts and cannot be expected to know or act in a child's best interests.

Sostenueto · 25/07/2017 15:43

Thankfully there won't be a circus around my deathbed, I've covered all possibilities.

muckypup73 · 25/07/2017 15:43

If they got their way Charlie wiould be suffering a long long time.

IdentifiesAsYoda · 25/07/2017 15:43

Yes. She's had no control of his life since that baby was born. She just wants some control.

GinSoakedTwitchyPony · 25/07/2017 15:44

Well said Buttery

MissHavishamsleftdaffodil · 25/07/2017 15:44

CGF gives much fuller picture of what was going on, and much of it seems the barriers discussed here. Publicity, practicality.

Saucery · 25/07/2017 15:44

Oh ffs, how childish. They need to start being the parents he needs now, not railing against a system that was never their enemy anyway.

Puzzledandpissedoff · 25/07/2017 15:44

This will never stop rolling on until the judge is finally forced to make a mandatory order. This will never be about Charlie

Very well said ... the only thing I can't understand is why anyone's even vaguely surprised by this

All the incessant, kindly meant allowances have done it to persuade the parents that nothing will be done to bring about Charlie's release if they have the slightest objection to any aspect at all

The saddest thing of all is that, at least for now, they're clearly right

OP posts:
IdentifiesAsYoda · 25/07/2017 15:44

.... my "yes" was in response to the post by FairyCaravan, not agreement with muckypup

Bumdishcloths · 25/07/2017 15:44

Passing away at home is rarely the peaceful end that people expect. Whilst I understand why the parents want to move him, I can't for one minute believe that it is in the child's interest. It's anything but.

christinarossetti · 25/07/2017 15:45

I can completely understand that C&C are utterly deranged with grief. I don't see how they could be anything else at this point. And desperately trying to 'do the right thing for Charlie', which has become more and more abstracted from reality as the weeks have gone by, sadly.

All grieving parents have bizarre, mad and irrational thoughts and beliefs. It's part of grief. The problem is when, as in this situation, there is just enough basis in lived possibility to invoke the involvement of the legal system. Then the parents' grief spirals completely out of control, affecting many, many more people.

straighttalker · 25/07/2017 15:45

So sickened that they're back in court. I don't know how they bear it - before the excuse was they're fighting for hope, they're fighting for their child. Now - what are they fighting for? To get their own selfish way?

I had hoped that these parents had found some measure of peace and acceptance - but, clearly, no.

With the GOSH statement suggesting Charlie is in pain, I do not understand how permitting it to continue for even one more day is appropriate never mind "days".

This case has been played out in the public eye, at the behest of Charlie's parents.
Even today's hearing was not allowed to be private, as CY wanted it public.
These threads are a distant echo, and result of that decision.
