Hi guys new thread.

Let's try to keep this one as sensible and measured as the past 7 threads have been.

Please note the MNHQ comment on thread number 7.

"Hi everyone,

..... We had to remove several parent-blaming posts, so we'd like to ask folk not to do this. We think we can all agree that this is a truly awful time for all involved and we just wouldn't wish it on anyone. If there's anything we could do with more of, it's support. We'll continue to remove reported posts that break TGs (if we've missed something, do feel free to let us know).

If we have to make too many deletions, we will need to look at removing the thread; which is the last thing we wish to do.

Thanks all"

Starting now as 9 will fill up quickly.

LucyLocketLostIt, watching that, Russel Brand, it is true and I know I sit here and think well if that was my child, I would let him go, but I suppose at the end of the day the parents, might always be thinking what if what if what if? however, if the parents died what would then happen to charlie? say for instance if charlie were left in a vegitive state? I know I have spelled that wrong.

MirandaWest · 17/07/2017 11:46

What is happening today? Is the US doctor examining Charlie and then there is the meeting? I know he has to leave tomorrow afternoon so examination and meeting need to have taken place by then.

Does this get reported on or will this happen at court next week? CA do seem to see him as the knight in shining armour to come and proclaim that he will be able to treat Charlie today but I am unsure what will be happening.

Thank you everyone.

So sorry to detail the thread with my own selfish babbling. I'm angry at myself for conflating the two tragedies in my own mind, let alone drag it onto MN. I feel much better now, you are all wonderful. Off to support the family.

muckypup73 · 17/07/2017 12:12

TheWeeWitch, sometimes sweety you need to sound off, you know we are all here to support you xx

BubblesBuddy · 17/07/2017 12:16

WeeWitch. Hope your family has the strength to get through this.

A transcript of the meeting is going to the judge. As we have already debated, it rather depends on whether CY can report on what she thinks prior to the judge evaluating the experts' opinions. It plus seem fair if no-one at the meeting broke ranks, but in this frenzy, who knows?

Flowers for weewitch

delurking. these threads are invaluable. never get round to posting and spend all my time trying to keep up.

the "conflict of interest" nonsense is getting on my wick. a few people have tried to reason with them on CA but they are all so brainwashed into thinking this is one giant conspiracy that they just accuse the person of being negative /a troll / not a true charlie supporter.

it's really not going to help his parents to be focusing on this rubbish and the judge will not be impressed.

DarthMaiden · 17/07/2017 12:33

@weewithch

So very sorry to hear that

@Rhodiolia

Thank you for the update on Lonely - it's lovely to hear her DD is well enough to be dancing Smile

I am sick to death of CA. I just tried to read some of the comments and I've not come across such ignorant babbling for years. It wouldn't be quite so bad if they tried to find out facts, or tried to understand them, but they don't.

I hope the judge has something very severe to say about this. I hope he cuts right through all the twaddle with vehemence and gusto. I hope he stops being kind and patient and just exerts his authority.

I am out of patience right now. I didn't sleep well. Blush

Lightlovelife · 17/07/2017 12:37

Weewitch we had a family member attempt suicide several times. I can understand a little of your frustration and loss. You are right to vent.

From the Evening Standard

Dr Hirano has been given an honorary contract, which the hospital said gives him the same status as its own physicians.
This means he can examine Charlie, and has full access to his medical records and the hospital's facilities.

Lightlovelife · 17/07/2017 12:42

Dr Hirano sounds like a character from Thunderbirds! (Sorry, it was DS' obsession for years. I think I watched every episode more times than anyone would want to.)

I'm so very sorry weewitch Flowers

Writerwannabe83 · 17/07/2017 12:47

I'm very sorry for your loss weewitch and I agree with everything you said in your post Flowers

Can I ask what may be a stupid question? Following the meeting this afternoon is the plan that the doctors will have made a final decision anongst themselves whether to give Charlie the treatment or not?

Why the case of Charlie Gard resonates in the US

smilingmind · 17/07/2017 12:49

I am so very sorry weewitch

Puzzledandpissedoff · 17/07/2017 12:56

GOSH consulted at a much earlier stage with the USA doctor ... they all thought treatment was futile ... When the US Dr agree it was unlikely to work, the court agreed that - Charlie should move to palliative care ...The US Dr still has not treated anyone as ill as Charlie and indeed earlier in the year, declined to see him. Papers from GOSH were sent to him but he didn't visit

Hang on, is this the same doctor who's now come over? If it is, I don't understand why he testified last week that the therapy would be worth a try? I realise there's supposed to be some very minimal recent research, but it hardly sounds like a "lightbulb moment", especially when it's been on a different condition

Let's not forget, too, that the doctor said in court he may have "overstated" his position .... so just what exactly is the point of him coming at all, unless he simply sees Charlie as a research project?

ArgyMargy · 17/07/2017 12:56

So sorry WeeWitch Flowers

Allington · 17/07/2017 12:58

writer I don't think they will necessarily agree (though they may do) - but they will all have access to the same information in coming to their conclusions. They can then give their opinion to the court based on the shared information.

In the end I suppose they all need to come to a conclusion about Charlie's current well-being or lack of, whether this new treatment is likely to have any impact, and if so what that impact could mean for Charlie and his quality of life.

It's up to the court to balance that up. Even if they all agree on the above questions, it is up to the court to decide whether it is best for Charlie to have the treatment, as I doubt any result will be '100% certain to reverse all symptoms of Charlie's condition'.
