Does anyone else, on reading this start to wonder if it's a joke when you get to the bit about the lawyer?

it still is of one or the other sex though 🙄

fatdogs · 03/07/2017 22:52

But surely the birth certificate lists sex not gender?

StealthPolarBear · 03/07/2017 22:53

Oh for the good old days when the eccentrics changed their names to symbols

Noone has a gender at birth; they have an observed sex

StealthPolarBear · 03/07/2017 22:53

Apparently not

I always thought sex was xx or xy and gender was masculine or feminine but it seems its way more complicated

I like that "the parent" refuses to prescribe to labelling themselves as either gender, but has clearly given birth. Think the game's up luv. You can't turn away from your womanhood and then do one of the few things that sets us apart biologically from men.

When you think of the human rights abuses round the world and the real injustices, and then there's shit like this heading for a judicial review. Poor kid.

Pallisers · 03/07/2017 22:57

I thought the identification was of sex not gender? None of my children were born with a gender, whatever that is.

Maybe we should change birth certs to XY/XX etc. might make it easier. Because that baby has either one or the other or, incredibly rarely, is intersex.

I suspect 6 months in, after a bout of colic, and definitely after toilet training, the gender issue will be the least of the worries of this parent.

BBQueen · 03/07/2017 22:58

I love barbara's reasoning for not capitalising their name - "I like it".

I was looking for something profound...

StealthPolarBear · 03/07/2017 22:59

Are you all practising your retches

Craic
How transphobic! The 'person' gave birth from a non binary fanny and is now feeding the 'infant' from zir chest

MarciaBlaine · 03/07/2017 23:03

This shit makes me weary. You are assigned a sex at birth. gender is a social construct.

EmpressoftheMundane · 03/07/2017 23:11

Seems like child abuse to me by dippy, well intended people.

diodati · 03/07/2017 23:15

Being Canadian myself, I was cringing when I read about this. Even my teenage DC were bemused.

TheCraicDealer · 03/07/2017 23:19

I don't even think it's well intended tbh. That baby is being used as a pawn and probably is this this special snowflake's atttempt to set themselves apart from all the other special snowflakes that stole their "thing". It's one thing making yourself different out of choice as an adult, quite another to do that to a child who's going to face enough challenges with a parent who doesn't ascribe to gender norms.

VestalVirgin · 13/07/2017 18:14

Certainly not.

Thousands of radical feminists give birth to gender-free children who just have a biological sex (as has this child) each year.

Sure, most other people will assign a gender to them based on the sex they observably are, but thousands of radical feminists manage to not force their children into gender stereotypes, without demanding praise and newspaper articles and all that.

This is clearly all about getting into the newspapers.
