Simone Weil died today. She is a huge figure in France, and was the first president of the European Parliament, but I can find little about her death in the UK press.
She deserves to be remembered: a formidable, determined woman, who fought hard for human rights, and for European construction after surviving the Holocaust.

She was amazing. Have to confess I didn't know she was still alive.

Astonishing life she led, and an incredible legacy.

Although she lived to a good age I've been very sad about this today. She was an inspiration.

She was an amazing woman, absolutely remarkable. I am sad to hear that she has died. I have always admired her enormously.

AuldAlliance · 30/06/2017 23:40

She was inspirational.
I can't help thinking that there won't be many like her.

Umm - really not wanting to be arsey, but the politician and Holocaust survivor who died today was Simone 'Veil', not Simone 'Weil' (a French anarchist who died in the 1940s).

Radio 4 interviewed Edith Cresson (former prime minister of France) today about Veil - but I can't find the link. They were in different political parties, but Cresson made obvious her respect for Veil.

Who wouldn't respect her? She was a remarkable woman and, as a pp said, she left an amazing legacy.

We need more like her! Flowers

My mistake.
Sorry.
Different spelling, same pronunciation...
I wish MN would let us correct posts.
