amnesty for illegal immigrants who survived the Grenfell tower blaze

Survivors of the Grenfell Tower fire who are in the country illegally will be given an amnesty if they come forward to police and other authorities. According to the times newspaper.

I have read in other places where it says the police wants the survivors to come forward and they will not be persecuted. It's the only way the police will come close to the number of survivors and missing people. The survivors will also get the help they need.
The fear some people still have, one that the police has not clarified is of whether the home-office would get involved and how?

I think right now, amnesty is the right answer and hope the government announces it.

Please God. Any bit of relief for these poor pets. Have just been listening to Simon Cowells single. I dare you not to cry listening to it. Very powerful.

What pets? Is this auto gone wrong are you calling people pets?

They should do. It might help to get some answers about the missing too.
Pet is a term of endearment.

quencher it's a term of endearment. An amnesty is the only answer I can see, it absolutely should be done.

Oh! I have never come across it. It threw me a bit. I just could not work it out because it didn't match the tone of post. Thanks! Phew!

I hope they do offer it to them too.

I am seriously starting to think that other fires may be started on purpose now.

Lucysky2017 · 24/06/2017 10:28

It's a geordie term.....

I think this was announced by May a few days ago.

Perhaps we could even set up a Government website where people can upload anonymously details and proof of who was in the block for the police to check as there may be relatives abroad wanting to know if their illegal immigrant child was in that block as they have no heard from them for a good while and a neighbour might be able to confirm details.

I didn't realise pet wasn't used in other places, I can see why it threw you of you hadn't heard it before.

I think that there is no way of knowing how many people were in there if people can't come forward without fear, and the people who got out need support not even more fear.

I cried while listening to the single because it was so awful

@OptimisticOllie: I agree. Word spreads quickly among the illegal community and if getting caught up in a disaster becomes a free pass to obtaining a visa, there are some that will give it a try.

I am sorry for all the Grenfell victims, whether they were legal or otherwise, but this gesture could backfire.
