I've been lurking on these threads and have just been reading Dryheave's link to the Grenfell Action Group blog on p 17.

Chilling and damning. Horrible to read.

RedToothBrush · 18/06/2017 19:31

sorry to be ignorant but why would those staying with friends not be among those counted? (you are right of course, 49 households rehoused does not count those staying with nephews etc) but in terms of tally of survivors?

I think this is the point. Its a different list. And there's lots of lists. When people are adding up the numbers there is no consistency here. There is no list of who was in the building and who got out and where they are now. A lot of the media reports are very contradictory and can not be relied upon as accurate. Very little has been coordinated. Its impossible to work out much from it all. The authorities have been clearly abdicating responsibility and this shifts people off lists.

Slimthistime · 18/06/2017 19:43

Bloody council head dissing high vis jackets. He gets paid six figures and doesn't know the first thing about crisis management? Or did he say that as deflecting blame or something?

Fuxache.

StatisticallyChallenged · 18/06/2017 20:01

he sounded like an absolute ignorant douchebag

Heartbreaking report in the Mail my dad has just read out. Firefighters were sent to one flat quite high up in the building but they kept having to stop to rescue people in the staircase before they could get to the flat. And then it was too late to get to that flat. Plus several 999 operators remained on the line to people until the lines suddenly went quiet. That sort of trauma must be very hard to come to terms with.

Comprehensive support list for #Grenfell Tower Residents

From the Guardian

The residents’ group, who visited the prime minister in Downing Street, have released a statement to say they welcomed the announcement that each household would receive £5,500 immediately but said they had not been consulted on this beforehand as promised.

The group said:

We naturally welcome funds for those in need, though this does show once more the tendency to sideline residents’ views.

At No 10 yesterday, the prime minister assured the group that from now on residents would be consulted on a coordinated relief effort. This has not happened with these funds.

Reported at 19.56 on Sunday 18 June

Counting is being confounded by lack of co-ordination, disparate information sources and different organisations seeking information for different purposes.

The decision to release the funds was made prior to meeting the residents though wasn't it? The emergency funds were announced on Friday lunchtime by TM.

Some of the residents and families she met at the hospital made it very clear they needed emergency funding immediately.

StatisticallyChallenged · 18/06/2017 20:24

Misposted this on another thread

Has anyone seen this from Buzzfeed:

www.buzzfeed.com/aishagani/another-london-council-says-it-is-stepping-in-to-deal-with?utm_term=.eja06Vn8j#.ar0RZqP39

"The Grenfell Fire Response Team said the latest information they have is 201 households have so far received emergency accommodation to date, of which 113 are homeless – almost five days after the fire."

If ^^ is accurate that makes a heck of a lot more sense numbers wise

It also states that the other councils are now stepping in, there WAS a london resilience response, but RBKC didn't enact it until Friday.

stopfuckingshoutingatme · 18/06/2017 20:27

Ah Toby young ! He set up an academy as he didn't want his kids to go to Acton high . A school with a very similar demographic and neighbouring estate .

Think the less he says the better . Really

Latest update from met police

news.met.police.uk/news/update-six-fatalities-following-the-fire-in-north-kensington-246230?hootPostID=86ea08248ff356970a67d3e545d64abc

"“Work has been ongoing throughout the night and continues today, so we can get as good an understanding as possible about who we believe to be still missing.

"Sadly that work leads me to believe that the number of people missing, but as yet unaccounted for has risen from yesterday’s figure of 58.

“Today, police teams continue their support to families, and make enquiries to cross check the number of those missing. I have always said I will be accurate about what I know, so the next figure of those presumed dead and missing will be released tomorrow, Monday, 19 June. The figure will be higher but I do not wish to speculate on that number today."

They've released photos and video too

11122aa · 18/06/2017 20:41

Making an announcement about an announcement is either to show they is no cover-up or they will be a large increase from 58 dead tomorrow and they want to prepare people for it.

RedToothBrush · 18/06/2017 20:45

Or Both. 11122aa

BurnTheBlackSuit · 18/06/2017 20:52

Risen from 58 :( from how he announced that, it doesn't sound like it will be 59 either. Those poor people.

SylviaPoe · 18/06/2017 20:52

Those videos are horrific, and I hope all the bereaved are getting the support they need.

It is heartbreaking.

mrsglowglow · 18/06/2017 21:06

So the joint response team has been set up to take over from kcbc. I believe the criminal enquiry will be focussing on the kcbc as well as other organisations and it does make sense that they should have no further direct involvement with witnesses/residents etc.

BurnTheBlackSuit · 18/06/2017 21:20

I am in awe of the fire chief and all her firefighters who went against the rules risking their lives to try and save lives. They are all heroes.

BeyondStrongAndStable · 18/06/2017 21:34

Indeed, burn. The Facebook post upthread demonstrates this brilliantly

thereallochnessmonster · 18/06/2017 21:41

Does anyone have a link to the RBKC planning minutes that said that one of the reasons the cladding was added was to make the tower block look prettier for the people in the conservation areas of South Ken?

(paraphrasing here, but am sure the link was added a few days ago but I can't find it.)

Thank you!

Apologies if this has already been share @Natalieisonline has been looking through the minutes of previous RBKC committee meetings.

MonkeylovesRobot · 18/06/2017 21:54

Woah. That says there were non compliment leaseholders in the building who had not installed fire doors.

This is not good.

MonkeylovesRobot · 18/06/2017 21:58

Read the later tweets first, then go back and read the first ones (I don't know if they are in date order, I hope it is reverse order). Very interesting and very scary (I would actually be terrified it if I was the TMO right now).

Hairydilemma · 18/06/2017 22:01

In the update, Stuart Cundy says:

*“I must consider the fact that there may be others in the building who, for whatever reason have not been reported to us. There is also a real possibility that there may be people in the building that no one knows are missing.

"I want to hear from anyone who believes that they know someone who may have been living, staying or visiting but has not yet been reported missing to us. We are not interested in your reasons for not telling us sooner, we just want to understand as best as we can who may still be inside the building."*

Which sounds as if they suspect there were more people in there -whether through subletting, visiting, whatever - than the official figures might show.

It also raises a thought I've had since the start - there may have been individuals or very 'self-contained' families in there whom nobody is looking for because they didn't have any friends or family. Or maybe family are overseas and don't know their address? So again, more people than might be obvious.

Although I suppose council lists should have all these people (not visitors or subletters, obv, but all the 'official' residents listed).

It's all horrific.
