...of the hypocrisy. We the UK are the second largest arms dealers in the world. We champion our democratic values then arm some of the most brutal and repressive regimes in the world.

We are the creators of weapons of mass destruction.

We are not winning the war on terror.

I created this petition to ask the UK government to review the UK arms trade and create a strategy that abandons profiteering from this evil industry. If you agree please sign and share widely. Thank you www.change.org/p/vote-for-peace?recruiter=16935262&utm_source=petitions_show_components_action_panel_wrapper&utm_medium=copylink

The only other question is what social services are you willing to give up?

Not selling arms would not promote peace the buyers would just by less accurate weapons from other countries while we lose industries.

Nyx · 06/06/2017 14:34

I severely doubt that money from arms sales goes towards our social services. Any of it.

prh47bridge · 06/06/2017 15:37

Of course it does. The arms manufacturers pay significant sums in corporation tax. That goes into the general taxation pot part of which pays for social services.

cdtaylornats · 06/06/2017 15:51

Not to mention the 1000s put out of work and the billions that we would spend to buy our own arms from abroad.

All those people on the dole rather than paying income tax. No more training for engineers. Snubbing the EU even more as I assume we would be pulling out of all the joint ventures that sell weapons. So no more helicopters with Augusta, no more Typhoon production, no more Airbus, as if British manufacturing wasn't low enough.

How far do you take it - what about ARM - would you ban selling mobile phones to Saudi?
