How sad

McDreamy · 18/03/2007 16:50

I heard the sirens last night and thought there had been a fight or something somewhere - I had no idea until this morning. They will be so missed.

I posted a thread about this, I was wondering if you were ok, was worried about you as I knew you were in Cyprus.
Very sad

McDreamy · 18/03/2007 18:06

thanks saltire, very thoughtful of you I think tomorrow will be tough when all the children go back to school and the adults back to work. It's all been a bit surreal today

Scootergirl · 18/03/2007 18:14

Am also a Forces wife and I know just how things like this can shake the whole camp.
We have friends out there with two children and I went cold when I heard. Thinking of you all x

McDreamy · 18/03/2007 18:22

Lurkey we already have smoke detectors and have done for ages here - don't know whast happened, I am afraid it might be something house related though as these houses are so old fashioned! But no-one knows yet

Hi all,
I'm just going to echo McDreamy's thoughts about this awful news. I've only been at Akrotiri eight weeks but I'm feeling the gravity of this tragedy on such a friendly, welcoming and close-knit community. I know that one of the children was a little boy in my daughter's year at school, and a best friend of one of my friend's children. The school will be shattered and I don't envy the job of the teacher's in trying to help more than 60 five-year olds make sense of the senseless loss of one of their schoolmates. Not to mention the impact on the other children and staff there.
On Friday morning I sat with joyful tears in my eyes watching three classes of hopeful, happy, and vivacious children prouudly showing off drawings of their mothers and announcing why they loved them. Now one of them is gone forever, together with a sibling and father and the tears are back in my eyes again.
I am just so grateful to have my children by my side.
To anyone who has been touched by this or any other such tragedy, may I extend my heartfelt sympathies.

homemama · 19/03/2007 09:20
