Anyone remember all those HP sauce adds which stressed how very British it is???

Well, they are closing the Birmingham factory where it has been made for the last 100 years and moving production to the Netherlands. See here

Don't think I'll be buying any more.

why not? IT will still taste the same.

Freckle · 16/03/2007 06:14

I don't like hypocrites and won't support them.

Yes, it will still taste and smell like ten day old dustbins, wherever they make it!

Pann · 16/03/2007 06:18

well, it's owned by an American company and has been for years. The only 'hypocrisy' going on is from the advertisers/PR peeps, but they are like that ALL the time!!!

I wouldn't not buy it because it isn't "British" - I like lots of things that aren't British.

Do think your being a bit harsh, no??

Pann · 16/03/2007 06:19

and what a taste, earl!!

earlgrey · 16/03/2007 06:28

LOL!

Pann · 16/03/2007 06:30

wellll, it is gorgeous. The thought of not having some of the "Fruity" HP sauce in the house is anathema. Am fairly reckless as to where it is made........

earlgrey · 16/03/2007 06:37

And how my sister can ruin a perfectly good fried egg sarni by smothering it with essence of 10-day dustbins will haunt me to the grave .......

earlgrey · 16/03/2007 06:38

10-day old dustbins, even.

Pann · 16/03/2007 06:40

wrong end of the telescope earl IMVHO. It's the sauce that makes the egg. More power to her elbow, esp. as she is dolloping the dark brown neectar!!! Hmmm...

Freckle · 16/03/2007 06:40

Lots of things are owned by foreigners but are still made here, employing local people, etc. Marketing something on the basis of its "Britishness" and then sacking all the British people who make it just stinks rather. Bit like the sauce I suppose.

or nectar even!

RubberDuck · 16/03/2007 07:09

Nah, Daddies Brown Sauce is far nicer anyway.

Used to buy HP baked beans but don't seem to be stocked in our local supermarkets anymore, at least.

Pann · 16/03/2007 07:29

rubberduck...at both revalations!!

ImaWurzel · 16/03/2007 07:37

Mmmmmmmm HP
Don't half make a bacon n egg sarnie taste gooooood.

nogoes · 16/03/2007 07:39

Holland are welcome to it!

But I see your point.
