Sorry - rubbish at links. Not a good article (from the Mail) but some interesting strong opinions in the comments.
I couldn't help tying the topic in with the Unicef story. Surely the existence and welfare of children is important to all of society, for the future, whether they are your own children or someone elses? (Climate change won't kill us off for a while yet.) If so, some flexibility in the workplace is necessary. Is this country worse in this respect than other countries? Everything has become so competitive and egocentric.

did you see that the woman at Bloomberg won the right to part time working? lawyers say the fact that companies can turn down yr request (for p/t work) disproportionately affects woman, cos its women who tend to ask for part time work for child care reasons, and therefore is sexual discrimination. hurrah...

That's good news, wheelsonthebus.

I didn't see that wheelsonthebus but hurrah! Maybe, instead of starting a new thread, I should have added a post to the 'single parent benefits proposed to end when youngest child is 11 rahter than 16' thread. It still seems to be going strong regarding parents and working.
