Robert Kilroy Silk objects to slimming mirrors in M&S

I have to agree - my local M&S does this too.

It drives me MAD. I've got no idea what I REALLY look like when I try something on.

TKMaxx is the WORST offender though.

Anyone else driven mad by this?

Anyone know how you could actually TEST this?

Am I the only person who thinks this is hugely interesting...?

I havent noticed it in TKMaxx and I do spend an awful lot of time in there. Wallis and Monsoon are offenders though.

beckybrastraps · 13/02/2007 19:43

Perhaps it was the Kilroy reference that put people off.

I agree about the mirrors BTW.

mosschops30 · 13/02/2007 19:43

If i knew they had 'slimming mirrors' i'd go every day and look at myself.

I just look shit in all changing room mirrors, pasty/blobby bleurgh

Sheraz · 13/02/2007 19:44

Gosh, do you mean that i am fat in r/l?

morningpaper · 13/02/2007 19:45

yes you big heffa

I understand they are real normal mirrors, but its the way they tilt them. You can test it by feeling under the bottom edge to see how big the gap is between wall and mirror, then feeling along the top, where it will feel flush with the wall if it's been tilted.. IYSWIM

IntergalacticWalrus · 13/02/2007 19:45

Does Kilroy's mirror milead him into thinking he's ledd orange?

Bobalina · 13/02/2007 19:45

I want to know where I can buy a mirror that distorts your shape. I'd bloody love one.

Sadly it doesn't hide the saddle bags and brocolli-bottom though!

I'm all for them!

morningpaper · 13/02/2007 19:45

M&S make me laugh because they have slimming mirrors but then the most AWFUL overhead lighting.

The weird thing is that M&S are denying it.

OP posts:
IntergalacticWalrus · 13/02/2007 19:45

Sorry. I'll repeat that.

Does Kilroy;s mirror mislead him into thinking he's less orange?

sauce · 13/02/2007 19:45

I've heard of slimming lenses on cameras... do you think we could give everyone slimming sight so that all of us chubs could look sylph-like? Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, etc.

morningpaper · 13/02/2007 19:46

really themoon? interesting

OP posts:
noonar · 13/02/2007 19:46

LOL... i was thinking of a crazy hall of mirrors scenario. cant say i've noticed anything POSITIVE about changing room mirrors. the scary lighting an rear views are the things i notice.

Carmenere · 13/02/2007 19:47

I'm sorry MP I think he is barking, even if they do, which is unlikely, so what? Most people look at themselves in the mirror before they leave the house and if you have been duped into thinking that you have lost a considerable amount of weight on the way to M&S, well really, you are a bit dim, no?

sauce · 13/02/2007 19:48

Argh! Rear views! I can tell you that H&M mirrors do NOT flatter. Cellulite and everything in gory, high-definition detail.

morningpaper · 13/02/2007 19:48

I've fallen for the slimming mirror thing though

Tried on clothes and thought how FANTASTIC I look and got home and realised I actually look like a PORKER

I'm wise now

OP posts:
sauce · 13/02/2007 19:48

I love internet shopping!

morningpaper · 13/02/2007 19:48

I think it CAN be hard to tell Carmenere

Particularly as women have just distorted body-images anyway

OP posts:
IntergalacticWalrus · 13/02/2007 19:49

And can I aks what the dirty auld dawg was doing in the ladies changing room?

DizzyBint · 13/02/2007 19:55

i don't think the article (can't believe i've taken the time to actualy read it) says kilroy says they DO have mirrors that make you look thinner, he's just making the point that the EU has rules for every little thing so why not mirrors in m&s changing rooms. IYSWIM. he's just there to make a mockery of the EU.

so he isn't criticising m&s mirrors, he's criticising the EU, that's his 'job' as an independent MEP.

SueW · 13/02/2007 20:10

I've never found I look slimmer in a changing room mirror.

I have bought things that look good on though and then look crap when I get them home and try to put them with anything else I have in my wardrobe. Not make me look fatter, just look crap. I put it down to the shoping fix hormone.

Snaf · 13/02/2007 20:11

Way to get yourself back in the news, satsuma-face.

"Robert Kilroy-Silk criticises 'not-smug enough' mirrors in M&S"...

wheresthehamster · 13/02/2007 20:21

In a reverse situation, I was in Matalan changing rooms today and I commented to the dds how fat I looked!

I asked them if I looked like that in real life and they said no.

Perhaps Matalan meant to order the M & S mirrors and got mixed up?

foxinsocks · 13/02/2007 20:25

lol IGW

he is as mad as a snake that bloke

and to think our tax money pays for that (howl)
