Letter Bomb Explodes in U.K.'s Wokingham, Two Injured (Update2)

By Nick Allen

Feb. 6 (Bloomberg) -- A letter bomb exploded and injured two people at the offices of Vantis Plc in Wokingham in the central English county of Berkshire.

``I can confirm we have had a small explosion and two people are slightly injured,'' said Alistair Peck, a spokesman for Vantis which is an accounting, business and tax advisory group, according to its Web site.

An earlier letter bomb went off in London yesterday at the offices of Capita Group Plc, the company which operates the capital's congestion charging system. Vantis is involved in collecting speeding fines, Sky News reported.

An item of mail ignited and caused the explosion in Wokingham, a spokesman for Thames Valley police said in a telephone interview. It was too soon to speculate if it was connected to the London blast, he said. One person was injured in the London explosion.

Scotland Yard's Counter Terrorism Command is investigating the London attack. It will investigate if there are any links with today's blast, a spokesman said.

Wokingham has a population of 150,000.

sound like somones fucked off with getting speeding tickets and points.

personally i would love to have the balls to wear a reflective jacket, take small step ladders out of a white van and quickly spray the lense black with spray paint.

and carry on throughout the country.

Aderyn · 06/02/2007 12:51

Haven't people got more important issues to be activist about than targetting people who collect speed camera fines or collect the congestion charge. OMG It makes me seeth (sp?) that someone gets their knickers in a twist about their 'right' to drive as they like.

MrsRecycle · 06/02/2007 12:55

could've been me then!

I'm seriously pissed off atm - ds1 was in Great Ormond Street Hospital, we got burgled at the same time and what happens - the police turn up 72 hours later with no hope of catching the criminals and I get (yes I NOT dh) £100 fines for him doing illegal right turns whilst I (yes I) was in hospital tending to seriously ill son. AND we get parking tickets issued WHILST he was getting a ticket from the pay and display machine.

and who says "Crime doesn't pay" - does in my books.

CountessDracula · 06/02/2007 12:58

Mrs R if you are the registered keeper of the car then of course you will get the letter. All you need to do is send something in saying that you weren't driving and they will issue it to him

You can't expect the cameras to know who is driving or to know that you have an ill child.

uwila · 06/02/2007 12:59

Oh no, MrsR!! How are you? How is DS?

Do you think people are getting fed up with bills they can't pay in this country?

uwila · 06/02/2007 13:00

YEah, MrsR. Grass him up!

fannyannie · 06/02/2007 13:01

Thing is that Capita is also involved in the TV Licence (it's who DH works for) and MANY other public services too -

MrsRecycle · 06/02/2007 13:03

Nope CD all letters have to be from me. The fines are issued to the registered keeper of the car and NOT the driver. Also the parking attendant knew we had ds in hospital but still issued the parking fine. He also knew that we had been burgled but still chose to write it out.

My problem is that I pay £300 a year for the Metropolitan Police service and we have not had any service from them over the burglary but they are quick to jump on us if we're an easy catch on CCTV.

It took 11 pages of telephone calls from us to get an officer out.

MrsRecycle · 06/02/2007 13:07

I'm fine Uwila - Ds is much much better thanks. I know I'm pissed off with London (never thought I'd say that) and it's big brother approach. I can't believe they were watching us like a hawk whilst ds was in GOSH but can't be arsed to catch real criminals like the burglars.

uwila · 06/02/2007 13:10

Oh boy I'd be mad.

Have you complained?

More importantly, are you coming out with us on Sat.?

MrsRecycle · 06/02/2007 13:12

Me complain? Never!! Once I've dealt with the insurance company, the hospital appointments, the doctor appointments, the F**cking PCNs, then I'm going to write a letter to the chief super if I can get his/her name. Yes I'll be there Saturday.
