Seems ti raise more questions than it answers

Yes I spotted this. A poor young 21 year old British woman killed in a knife attack on Tuesday, by a 29-year-old French national - on a temporary visa since March - shouting 'Allahu Akbar'.

And a poor man tried to defend her and got stabbed 15 times - but survived.

What's going on and why wasn't this headline news.

Horrendous. Can't believe I haven't heard of this on the news so far. Seems so horrific. Poor, poor girl and her family and everyone involved.

I am the only one who finds the frequency of these public knife attacks lately concerning? Poor girl, and the poor bloke who tried to help her was stabbed 15 times in the face. Not sure about today's attack but the one 2 days ago in Belgium on the bus, the Swiss train attack and the London stabbings a couple of weeks ago all apparently due to mental health issues? Is there some sort of mental health care crisis happening simultaneously across the world that we're not privy to? So many questions, so few answers.

Well I guess mental health services are in crisis here, so perhaps other countries are not doing too well either. Or it's the equivalent of a full moon year, or maybe some planets are coming into conjunction for the first time in 200 years or something and that sets it off?

All the same it's awful, the lass was an only child, her mum is devasted, she's lost her only child. Awful for the guy too and very brave of him to try and help, there's not many would have taken the risk.

A few things to add.

Because this is an ongoing murder inquiry, family may have been asked to not speak to the press, and to direct all press enquiries to (Derby/Queensland) police.

There are some false and misleading reporting, so the Queensland police have released some information to correct that.

The attacker was incoherent, he was shouting mostly incoherently throughout the attack.

He remains violent in custody. He was not able to appear by video link at the trial. We don't know why, police are investigating, wait for them.

This isn't about mental illness. It was about a woman's life being taken from her. Her rights, her freedom, her life being taken from her by a random stranger (alleged stalker) who has turned violent.

Mia did nothing wrong. She didn't stand a chance against his brutal attack. It was in no way her fault, or any fault. There is nothing wrong with her travelling, her work, her clothes, her race, her anything.

"On Tuesday night, Ayad was allegedly armed with a kitchen knife when he roused Ayliffe-Chung from her bed and hauled her on to a balcony where he allegedly repeatedly stabbed her."

IT looks like he was unable to take no for an answer then? He had obviously become obsessed with the poor girl. My sister went to Australia just like this girl, she had a great time and no it's not wrong to want to do that. I just feel for her mum, I just can't imagine what it must feel like.

Yes, I feel for her Mum too! There must be so much to do. When does she get the chance to grieve? Her only child. This most amazing girl, just beginning her life as an adult out in the world, and with such wonderful flair and vitality! That is no ordinary girl, and that is no ordinary mother, either. If Mia is anything to go by, her mother is a wonderful person too.
I hope the memorial fund can bring her some sense of peace and purpose, however it is spent.

The Queensland police there seem to be handling it all well, considering how remote the place is, and how unprepared they probably were for this.

The brave young man who tried to defend her has now died of his injuries . Poor family. What a courageous man he was.

That seems a bit of a bald statement.

How could they possibly know he has never been in a mosque? It seems like denial more than anything. Now they are apparently going to read from the Koran at her funeral.

Mistery, Queensland police released more information to make it clear that the investigators have been able to rule this out as a terrorist attack.

Only Rosie can answer questions about the choice of memorial arrangements, and it seems as though she is considering everyone who is mourning the loss of Mia, and trying to make the memorial accessible and welcoming to all the people likely to attend. She and Mia were clearly close to people from many walks of life, of all faiths and none. If anything, Rosie seems to be putting her own religious convictions (as an athiest) to one side in order to bring about a meeting point for so many diverse and widespread grievers of all ages.

Personally, I've never really enjoyed multiculturalism, as it is a bit of a mishmash and niether one thing nor the other. I've preferred Interfaith exchanges, where each separate believe system, tradition and branch of religion has freedom to pracise peacefully in their own community, and invite one another to share in meals, services, worship, volunteering and charitable work.
As I get older, I find I do not now fit into any religion, at least in terms of the way someone like Rosie might judge me. I don't believe in hell, I'm all for gay marriage and support trans rights, am an apologist for neither Zionists nor Hamas /Hezbollah, and a lot of other 'non Christian' choices and beliefs, for soneone with faith in God and believes in the Holy Trinity.

It doesn't appear to have been a terrorist attack, as he seems to have had a sexual obsession with her. But that doesn't mean you can say he never went in a mosque.

She can say what she likes, it's a blog. I'd imagine it's her way of expressing herself, and frustrations. If that's the harshest thing she says about him (who knows, to her that might be an insult, sounds like it) then good on her!

I think she is worried about it being an excuse for further Islamophobia. She is a socialist and does not want her daughter's horrific death to be exploited for racist ends.

Subsequent to my daughter's murder at a hostel in Queensland, I would urge anyone who is planning overseas travel - particularly in Australia - to read this.
Trips to Australia seem to be the ultimate in teen 'walkabouts' - about the farthest you can get from your parents without a rocket! Its exciting, its amazingly beautiful and it challenges your independence to the max. But young people who have swooned and surfed through their first year face a huge hurdle in staying for another - the requirement to complete 88 days labour - often in agriculture - in order to qualify for their second year. It was during the first few days of this work that my daughter Mia was killed by a fellow traveller...not by the snake or spider that I feared in the cane fields in which she was working - totally unprepared and unprotected. No - she was killed during the long, hot, unstructured evening period where desperate young people are stuck in small towns with no entertainment competing against each other for hard labour in order to continue their dream. The fact that this fight to stay happens to benefit Australia's struggling agricultural market is by the by...the system is obligatory, unregulated and frankly, highly dangerous.
I am campaigning for support from the British Government to lobby Malcolm Turnbull (Australian Prime Minister) to properly regulate the employment of largely foreign travellers to work in this way for their ticket to stay; to control the agencies and farms that place young people and critically the hostels that accommodate them.
