I think they were hoping for a conditional discharge (whatever that means). although, obviously they were hoping to have been acquitted

I was shocked earlier at the news, with the News of the World royal editor being convicted and given an actual prison sentence, for tapping phones, while two paedophiles were given suspended sentences. I know which of those I would prefer behind bars.

I think we have one of those cases where everyone involved is in the wrong.

The arts grads running the Home Office can't manage prisons.
The media think the criminal law doesn't apply to them.
The drug dealer is trash, but according to the briefing I got recently from the Home Office, there is surprsingly little point in standard prison sentences for him.
The judges are pissed off with the home office, and thus let out criminals to make a point.
Reid, and the rest of the Labour party don't "do " administration, and is the prime cause of all this.

Bizarrely, the erposn who comes out of this looking least bad is the paedophile. Yes, he's a scumbag who should be locked up, but seeing the guy on TV, he clearly recognises that he should be put somewhere where he can't do any harm. That strikes me as a great deal more responsible than some socialist minister of state who can't be arsed to run his department properly when there's much more attractive and fun things to do.

agree with FioFio. I think it was fair.

right. I've read it properly now.

No, I think they should have been acquitted!
