Why would you think this is acceptable.

The man is in his seventies and grew up in an era when if an elderly gentleman told you to take your feet off the seats you did and were worried you were in real trouble. Kids of today 'know their rights' and probably gave them some lip. He shouldn't have done what he did but only because he will now get a criminal record, I bet the little shits deserved it.

SemiNormal · 26/07/2016 18:05

The man is a vile prick and a bully.

The childrens behaviour was rude but if the man didn't like what they were doing then he should have told someone who works there. He sat down at one point so it's not like he needed the seat clearly, so why not just let it go? I don't get all this hatred towards these children at all, they had their feet on seats, that's it, kids hanging out with mates who acted a bit cocky infront of each other. Most children, in my opinion, can be a bit back chatty infront of their mates - it's fairly 'normal' behaviour from kids that age whether we like it or not. They test bounderies, they push the limits somewhat, do they deserve to be fucking punched for that??? Not at all!

SemiNormal · 26/07/2016 18:07

Also, I can't believe that in a country that generally thinks smacking is never okay that somehow it's acceptable for a stranger to punch a child in the ribs and grab hold of him in such an aggressive manner.

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 26/07/2016 18:08

I think it's very telling that no one called the police tbh.

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 26/07/2016 18:12

They were being ' cocky,' the man did go and sit back down and they continued to be cocky and continued to put their feet on the seats.

I would bet my last pound that cocky in this instance was a torrent of abuse that caused the the man to snap.

blindsider · 26/07/2016 18:21

The problem is the parents that think their little Prince Charming could do know wrong and will push for this chap to be prosecuted. If my 11 year old boy had been asked to take his feet off the seats and basically ignored him and gave an elderly gentleman a heap of abuse I would be giving his backside the tanning he richly deserved and taking him round to apologise to the old boy.

almondpudding · 26/07/2016 18:36

People behave awfully on public transport all the time.

I don't want to have to witness violent conflicts over it.

angelos02 · 26/07/2016 18:44

I can't believe that the fury is being levied at the gentleman. If the boy had been taught manners in the first place, this would never have happened. I'm sick to death of this pandering to badly behaved children.

WhoTheFuckIsSimon · 26/07/2016 18:48

I do think the man shouldn't have done it. He went too far.

However if dd came home and said someone had done this to her I would give her a bollocking for being such a twat.

hazeyjane · 26/07/2016 18:50

He punched one!

Kids behaviour was dreadful, but punching and arm locks isn't the answer.

almondpudding · 26/07/2016 18:52

If every time somebody was rude to me on public transport I put them in an armlock, I'd be in prison.

Part of good manners is not violently escalating situations where other people are acting badly.

BastardGoDarkly · 26/07/2016 19:09

He punched a child in the ribs, and got him in am arm lock ffs!?

He should have told staff, not made it his business to make them take their feet down.

It's assault, and he should be charged.

ivykaty44 · 26/07/2016 19:15

Those of you saying that the man should move seats and the behaviour - what sort of example is that setting to these boys?

ivykaty44 · 26/07/2016 19:17

What should have happened to the boys for behaving badly and ignoring the rules?

BastardGoDarkly · 26/07/2016 19:19

He should have called staff, or gone and found them, let them throw them off.

Astounded a pp would tell their DC it was their fault for being a twat f someone assaulted them age 8-11 Hmm

The man taught those kids a valuable lesson - you can't do whatever the hell you want.

There is a reason noone called the police - the other passengers supported his actions.

agentmarmalade · 26/07/2016 19:30

Good grief.
The boys were in the wrong but the man even more so. Some of you have called him an "elderly gentleman" but his behaviour, punching a child in the ribs and arm locking him is not gentle or gentlemanly.

The boys were showing antisocial behaviour which is not ok. They are also too young to be traveling on trains unaccompanied by an adult. Have the parents raised them with due care? It doesn't look like it. My kids are that age and they dont go out on trains alone and argue with adults!

In a ideal society everyone would behave respectfully but that's never going to happen. Personally I would have ignored the feet on the seats, but I would have intervened if a person was getting hurt. (By phoning the police or getting help usually)

agentmarmalade · 26/07/2016 19:35

Also, if my kids were ever punched by an adult I would be calling the police regardless of what my child had done!

Look, the old geezer is going to have to be charged or at least cautioned for assault.

The boys families need talking to as to how to behave when out and about.

RiverTam · 26/07/2016 19:35

I find it very telling that a friend of these boys took a picture and slapped it on social media. These kids know they can't be punished and if they are they can cause no end of trouble with social media.

The man was very wrong to do what he did but those kids need a strip tearing off them. I doubt they ever have it ever will, though.

I am laughing that he was in his 70s. Bet they reckoned they could face him down. Stupid little twats.

RiverTam · 26/07/2016 19:35

Ever have OR ever will.

SemiNormal · 26/07/2016 19:38

I wonder if the man would have done the same if the children were older teenagers of about 15/16 years.

PickAChew · 26/07/2016 19:38

Wonder if he'd dare do it to the adults who put their feet on seats. Or spill cider all over. Or smear their half eaten dinner everywhere.

Or if he's just a cowardly bully.

RiverTam · 26/07/2016 19:40

I wonder if the kids would have dared not to remove their feet if he hadn't been elderly. Bet if he'd been a burly bloke in his 20s they'd have done it sharp enough.

almondpudding · 26/07/2016 19:45

We actually do live in a society where you can do whatever you want and the only people who can stop us are employed by the state.

It's called a liberal democracy.

As opposed to the society people are imagining existed fifty years ago, which I think they're confusing with Ancient Sparta.
