I'm so sick of English politics. Do you think there's enough disaffection with English politicians now that the SNP could start fielding candidates down here?

It's easy being an opposition politician, you never have to pay for anything. What do you think would happen to Scotland if they couldn't sponge off England anymore.

Peachpudding has got it in one.

That particular myth was well and truly scotched post the indy ref. Scotland contributes more tax pounds per capita and public spending is less per capita. The fact is that it's London that sucks the wealth out of the rest of the UK.

But yes, OP you are more than welcome to come to Scotland.

Thanks OllyBJolly! I'll get practicing my whisky drinking in preparation.

No it wasn't because it isn't a myth. Scotland contributes 9.1% of the total tax take and accounts for 9.3% of UK spending. Scotland is running a larger deficit as a percentage of national output than the UK average. Whilst I wouldn't go as far as describing Scotland as sponging off England it is true that Scotland is dependent on the rest of the UK to support its public spending.
