some people feel that public garment-rending over someone they didn't know is pretty offensive and don't get that. people are different, that's all.

but, you know, it's a sad thing, no doubt. doesn't change the fact that those comments were about some bad behaviour on her part. really bad. and in fact, if you stop to think about it, her career was on the skids when she went on bigg boss in india and got her diagnosis, so it really is just her cancer that rehabilitated her in the eyes of the british public.

but nevertheless, it's a sad thing, terrible for her family and her boys in particular.

ruty · 22/03/2009 20:51

i don't get it either. It seems to be a sort of oneupmanship game to parade someone'e cynicism around as if it were a sign of superior intelligence, regardless of the amorality of the whole unpleasant thing. I was very vocal about Jade's behaviour in CBB. I am also very sorry for her and her children now. But because I express sadness at her death I must be a hun/dimwit/hello reading eejit.

DavidSussex · 22/03/2009 20:52

insensitive, maybe, but ignorant, no.

Ignorant of what, precisely? Sling me in pedant's corner if you like, but the use of the word ignorant in that context, is ignorant.

ruty · 22/03/2009 20:56

and i think women who live their whole lives in the public eye are of course going to motivate public empathy. Actually Diana and Jade had quite a bit in common, started life in the public eye very young, before their personalities had fully formed, lived out all their personal difficulties and problems under public scrutiny, and were both reviled and loved by the public/media. I can understand why people feel affected by this even if i can also understand that it is a bit indulgent to get emotional about it.

ladette · 22/03/2009 21:09

my apologies for being so ignorant. Will leave you clever people to it then....

What is the point of ressurecting a two year old thread on the day she has died ?????

purpleduck · 22/03/2009 21:26

shame

Twinklemegan · 22/03/2009 21:38

I believe that I am justified in feeling sad at the thought of a 3 year old and a 4 year old losing their mother, on Mother's Day of all days. I don't have to have known the person to feel like that, and the fact it is Jade Goody makes no difference at all. No doubt some will be saying she staged the death on Mother's Day for extra effect .

The person who resurrected this thread should feel thoroughly ashamed of themselves.

ahundredtimes · 22/03/2009 21:39

Not sure why anyone should feel ashamed. I mean perhaps we should all feel ashamed? We created Jade Goody, we stared and prodded and hated and loved, and then she wanted to die as publicly as she lived, and everyone has joined in with that too.

This thread is just part of the continuum of Jade Goody Celebrity isn't it?

ahundredtimes · 22/03/2009 21:40

Well it's from earlier on in the continuum, the JG has died threads are obviously where we're all at now.

yes, it's like we've all been participating in some grand celebrity experiment, like a big brother writ large. amazing, really. i mean it's still shit that the poor woman died, of course, but the larger thing, the cultural thing blows my mind.

AitchTwoOh · 22/03/2009 21:44

only one person did it, dittany, and they seem to have done a bit of shit-stirring today, so take it up directly. no biggie.

ahundredtimes · 22/03/2009 21:44

Nooo Dittany. Absolutely not, Jade was something else. She was a product of her times, completely, she made herself up in public. Not every celebrity has done that so successfully or so painfully or so visibly, and they haven't wanted to die in public either. She's something else.

Twinklemegan · 22/03/2009 21:47

Resurrecting a thread that suggests that anyone should be "delighted" to see the back of anyone, let alone a mother who has just died a cruel and painful death, is shameful. You won't find me lighting candles or adding endless s to a long thread. But unlike many on here I do believe in basic respect for the dead - whoever they are.

AitchTwoOh · 22/03/2009 21:48

in that respect she does bear some comparison to Diana, 100x. she had no reason other than a royal marriage to be famous, JG had no reason other than a tv show.

AitchTwoOh · 22/03/2009 21:49

i presumed it was some kind of primary school 'youse are all hypocrites' move, twinkle.

BecauseImWorthIt · 22/03/2009 21:50

I had no time or respect for Jade. The whole spectacle of her life, and subsequent death, was distasteful to say the least.

But she died today.

The titles of the threads that are being resurrected are worse than malicious, IMO. They are spiteful and really not necessary.

Quattrocento · 22/03/2009 21:52

It's an interesting juxtaposition, but prob in bad taste today.

ahundredtimes · 22/03/2009 21:53

Agree with Pruners. Or even just pointing out how much we all joined in the Jade Circus, and are joining in with her death too. Which isn't bad as such, I'm mean we're meant to I think.

BecauseImWorthIt · 22/03/2009 21:53

They may be disrespecting the rubberneckers, Pruners, but I think a little consideration for the subject is called for, whatever you thought of her.

Twinklemegan · 22/03/2009 21:54

That may be - I hadn't seen it that way, but I see where you're coming from - but I still find it pretty distasteful. I think a lot of people have actually changed their opinion of JG - me for one. I couldn't stand the woman in the past, but I think she's been really courageous through her illness and I actually admire her for that. If I had posted something crappy about her 2 years ago I wouldn't want it dragging up now.
