I kick myself for not paying attention to it. Should have guessed that, could have possibly won some money at the bookies by backing it a few weeks ago.

The very lovely Raaa posted this on another thread

eurovisionworld.com/?eurovision=2016

claig · 15/05/2016 17:32

Thanks, for the link, Kimmy. Am playing the Russian entry now. It is good. I will play the Australian and Ukrainian one afterwards.

It was the jury votes that swung it for the Establishment. Who is on the jury?

The UK only got 8 televotes, without the jury we would have been more stuffed than we were. Was our entry that bad?

Oh and every bugger hates the UK and Germany. Czech republic, think they just hated the song (on 2nd and hit a bum note which they used in the recap, poor lass).

I quite liked poodle-strudel porny Sergei, even if it reminded me of Macbeth witcbhes with its "thunder and lightning, it's getting exciting!"
And he had to sing while climbing a wall and everything!
But let's face it, had it got through, I would have been voting for Belarus's wannabe naked dude and wolf.

KimmySchmidtsSmile · 15/05/2016 17:38

Our entry was quite good Claig and well-received in the stadium, but seemingly only one ex-pat (me! Hi UK!) could be added to vote for it! Grin

Everybody hates us. Tis official.

KimmySchmidtsSmile · 15/05/2016 17:40

arsed not added. I am being told off by autospell check!

claig · 15/05/2016 17:42

Australian song good. Ukrainian one political, hardly any real chorus. If you read the lyrics it is a total giveaway and no one could write those lyrics 1944 about Germany in 1944, for example. But that is the hypocrisy of the "EU values". Spin is everything and done for political ends.

Yes, our song is quite catchy. The drum beat kicks it along. The "You're Not Alone" chorus should have been a bit more punchy but the drum beat kicks it up a notch, however a few too many simplistic "oh oh ohs", "I I I " "sky sky sky". Also ends without any climax, just peters out. It is good but not dramatic and punchy enough but far better than the Ukrainian entry.

www.eurovision.tv/page/results?event=2113&voter=DE

Added geekery. If you go on the results page here^ and click on the country "show the results of" eg Germany then scroll down to the results table, you can then click on the ABCDE heads of each jury member for a little biog.
We had for example three female singers incl the German singer Sarah Connor and the two male band members of Boss Hoss for our jury!

So five well known singers.

You can do this for the judges for all countries.

claig · 15/05/2016 18:01

Austrian entry was the only song entirely in French "Loin d'ici". Nice song but not memorable enough. But were Austria trying to pick up the French and Belgian vote?

OP posts:
KimmySchmidtsSmile · 15/05/2016 18:07

Hadn't heard of any of the UK judges though.

It is interesting though, the German jury all bar one liked Israel the best so with a ranking of 3, 1, 1, 1, 1 it got douze points but if you have five different subjective view points like in our household, then without a standout you are looking at aggregates.

KimmySchmidtsSmile · 15/05/2016 18:08

I loved Austria actually Blush it was one of the few lighter europoppy ones but yes, I was Blush as to why they weren't singing in German.

claig · 15/05/2016 18:09

Bulgarian one was good. Which one did you like best?

The UK song was alright, not great but alright. Perfectly acceptable but forgettable standard Euro number.Wouldn't have been a deserving winner imo which is why it didn't go high in jury votes, and as for public vote - well a lot of that depends on diaspora. It's hardly like there was some big conspiracy to not have a UK winner.

The Ukrainian one I disliked, but probably won for the meaning behind it. I'd have liked to see Australia get it, just for the upset it'd cause.

claig · 15/05/2016 18:12

I would prefer them all to sing in their own languages. After all it is not about the lyrics, it is the song, tune and melody really. But I guess there is the after contest sales market where English is the best language to shift records across the world.

So, the UK five jury members voted for the indie vibe song from Georgia.
Ranked it : 2,2,3,2,1. douze points
(Which pleased my eldest immensely)
but the great British public ranked it 19th so no points and instead rang up in droves for Lithuania! (Or noone voted at all bar half a dozen expat Lithuanians!)Grin
Hmm...having reviewed of, it was probably a teen vote, he's got a vlogger-bieber boyband vibe going on with an ugly white jacket!

KimmySchmidtsSmile · 15/05/2016 18:22

I liked Austria Australia Cyprus France Russia and the UK.
I wanted Australia to win: purely for them to hopefully opt to cohost with the UK. In my head it would have been hosted by Dame Edna and Kylie. Guest spots would have been Kylie, Colin Hay and Gina G.
It would have been kitsch, camp and awesome.
I need to get out more.

claig · 15/05/2016 18:25

't would have been kitsch, camp and awesome.'

Dame Edna and Kylie. Excellent. Don't know Colin Hay and Gina G, are they rappers?

But and I keep quoting him, it would have upset my favourite blogger Monkseal (Chris Rubery) who tweeted:

("Oh but Australians love #Eurovision, let them in")
"I like Mark Ruffalo but if I inserted myself into him there'd be trouble!"

Grin
n0ne · 15/05/2016 18:28

I loved the Ukrainian song since Thu. Kicking myself I didn't put money on it.

KimmySchmidtsSmile · 15/05/2016 18:28

Colin Hay is the lead singer of Men at Work who sang:
Down Under Grin

He also sang Overkill and Waiting for my real life to begin. Both used in Scrubs and songs of beauty.

Gina G is the lovely Ozzie chick who represented the UK several years back with Ooh ah just a little bit ooh ah a little bit more!!!

claig · 15/05/2016 18:28

"Ooh Aah... Just a Little Bit" Gina G. Yes, great song, still remember it after 20 years. That is more like it. "... just a little bit more" Grin

That's what I call rock!

OP posts:
claig · 15/05/2016 18:30

Yes 'Down Under' is the only one I remember from Men at Work.

I'm sorry you didn't put money on it n0ne
It personally wasn't my own cup of Brew because I align myself with pirates, washerwomen, brides, leotarded gimps, LED clothing and masked rockers. But in fairness, having heard it a few times now, she can sing. It just wasn't the Eurovision of my childhood and hasn't been for the last couple of years.

Some Austrians speak French, 10% I believe. (Useless fact)
