Saw a poster about this in a community centre

Apparently half the money from
Seized stolen property goes straight to the treasury

Thoughts?

As little as half?

What about the other half?

I suppose it has to go somewhere and if it is used for good rather than for MPs' expenses, it is OK. I am not sure where else could it go? I wouldn't want it going to one of these charidees run by failed politicians.

Maybe it should go to victim support.
The Government are robbing us left right and centre, this is just another thing they do.

Mind you, that would be common sense and decency, they haven't got much/any of that.

Victim support and the NHS should get any proceeds IMHO

Why.

But the treasury spends it again, on roads, education, nhs., defence, benefits.... so why is that a problem.

General pot makes sense.
Police should get share of proceeds, too. And Education & Social workers (might prevent some crime).

It costs money to recover funds from criminals. Some of the funds will be from drug smuggling or VAT fraud which do not have clear cut victims but the criminals can employ solicitors & barristers to protect their interests. The assets can be sold off at government auctions and the funds are then used to pay for all the services we benefit from such as NHS, schools, police, roads.

All proceeds should go into the central pot. If you start saying to police forces "the more you collect, the more money you get to keep for your budget" you can immediately watch their focus moving from going after the really dangerous offenders and looking at the really wealthy offenders whom they can get more money from. It's the same reason we nationalised the fire service.
