The verdict is in. The victims were unlawfully killed.

Finally, after waiting so long, I hope this brings some peace to the families and friends of those who died. Flowers

It also details the lies Duckenfold told, as well as the pay police officers had their statements altered. It's like watching an episode of 'Line of Duty' except it isn't fiction Sad

Pepperpot99 · 26/04/2016 12:52

'way'. sorry.

Dawndonnaagain · 26/04/2016 12:58

There has been no apology from The Sun today that I can see.

Tiggeryoubastard · 26/04/2016 12:59

Even if The Scum apologised it would be meaningless.

lalalonglegs · 26/04/2016 13:01

The Sun did apologise in 2012 to be fair but it was far too late, the damage had been done.

I'm so relieved by the verdict, the way the coroner was steering the jury, I was certain the families wouldn't get the unlawful killing verdict or even gross negligence.

Duckdeamon · 26/04/2016 13:03

Hope this helps the families a little.

Is the senior police officer found negligent still employed in the police? If so, he should resign.

Doyouthinktheysaurus · 26/04/2016 13:05

Such a relief to get this verdict.

I'm not from anywhere near Liverpool but I'm old enough to remember this horror and the events that followed very clearly. I felt very emotional reading the verdict.

I do hope this verdict brings the families some peace. They have campaigned so incredibly tirelessly.

redshoeblueshoe · 26/04/2016 13:09

I also remember Brian Clough blaming the fans on the day.

I was still waiting to hear how my relatives were, and that fucking bastard decided there and then to blame the fans, as did Duckinfield and The Sun.

Ironically Sky News is showing a programme tonight "Hillsborough, Truth Lies and Justice"

BoogieTime · 26/04/2016 13:18

So what happens now? Who's going to be punished and how?

LagunaBubbles · 26/04/2016 13:22

So pleased for the families and everyone affected by this verdict.

CotswoldStrife · 26/04/2016 13:23

Just shed a few tears watching Trevor Hicks on the news - I hope the verdicts bring some comfort to the families after so long.

redshoeblueshoe · 26/04/2016 13:32

Boogie - that's up to the CPS. Someone has mentioned that the relatives want to sue the Sun.

MiniMover · 26/04/2016 13:38

Justice at last!
And whatever you think of his politics, it would never have happened without Andy Burnham.
The least The Sun can do tomorrow is lead with an apology.

AdvocateNotAdvocat · 26/04/2016 13:45

Special thankfully the initial Taylor report ensured that stadium design and safety were prioritised and implemented post his findings.

Found it very emotional hearing the judgement today. JFT96 finally.

specialsubject · 26/04/2016 13:53

I hope that the obvious nonsense of the Sun wasn't behind this inquiry! When I say 'victims' I mean those killed and injured, not the crowd as a whole.

the authorities in control got it horribly wrong, as was obvious from shortly afterwards; that is ALWAYS the cause of a crowd disaster. A football match attracts a large crowd that need protection and management to avoid this kind of tragedy; the people in the crowd cannot know what is going on. The BBC has a list of what went wrong, a ghastly catalogue of mistakes.

what staggers me is that it has taken so long, as I said I really hope that the lessons of crowd management, stadium safety and emergency procedures have been learned many years before today. Has that happened or do we risk another disaster like this?

specialsubject · 26/04/2016 13:54

advocate thank you - just seen your post. That is something positive.

eyeslikebutterflies · 26/04/2016 13:56

At last. At last.

BadDoGooder · 26/04/2016 13:56

I'm so pleased, for the families, and for justice.
It's trily disgusting that it has taken nearly my entire lifetime to acknowledge what so many people have said for all this time, and to finally point the finger of blame where it should have always been.

I can't believe Kelvin Mackenzie is still employed (or that people still buy that disgusting rag). The police and press involved in the disgusting lies told should (but probably won't) be prosecuted.

To attempt to destroy the reputation of dead people, some of whom were still so young, just to cover your own arse, just shows how selfish and corrupt our system is.

If they'll lie and collude over this, what else will they/have they lied and colluded on??

BadDoGooder · 26/04/2016 14:00

I played this whenI heard the news (and yeah I know it's Billy Bragg! Wink )

BadDoGooder · 26/04/2016 14:02

And this nearly broke me....

Families Sing You'll Never Walk Alone Outside Court

MrsPear · 26/04/2016 14:07

Justice at last.

When I thought I couldn't get more shocked I read today that a 13 year old, who was there, was asked to id his dead mother by picture.

MangoMoon · 26/04/2016 14:13

I can't believe it took 27 years.
Like so many people I remember watching it unfold on tv - I was 14.

So, so pleased that all the victims, relatives & fans are finally able to rest.
They have fought so hard for too long.

Thanks for all those who have been personally affected by this.

ABetaDad1 · 26/04/2016 14:14

The idea of putting up barriers at the front of the crowd to stop pitch invasion was appalling.

It was an accident waiting to happen. It was inevitable. I do wonder if Govt was as culpable here in making that decision as the people in charge on the day.

The introduction of season tickets, all seater stadiums and more rigorous identification of people who cause trouble at matches has undoubtedly made football a far better sport.

Sixweekstowait · 26/04/2016 14:17

The first coroner ordered blood alcohol tests on all the dead, including children, so desperate where they to prove it was the drunken fans fault. The youngest was 10

BirthdayBetty · 26/04/2016 14:29
