Hello

We've put in a request to Professor Sandra McNally at the LSE's CEP thinktank; she's the director of their education and skills programme, and her team have done a lot of data-driven research into academies, so we thought she would be a good person to answer substantial questions about performance and outcomes.

Then we'll approach Lucy Powell further down the line, but in the first instance we thought some crunchy evidence analysis might be most useful for addressing MNers' questions?

Hi all,

We most certainly haven't forgotten about this but it may take a little time due to the Easter break and lots of folks on holiday. We will post again as soon as we know any more.

Thank you!

Hello

We put in the request to Professor McNally but she actually thinks the webchat would be better done by her colleague Professor Stephen Machin (the researcher who was featured on More or Less). We're just waiting to hear back from him about whether he can do it - we'll give him a little nudge.

Thanks

Morning

We have put in a request to Jeremy Corbyn to come on and thus far he hasn't bitten. We'll redouble our efforts.

The academic research may not feel very crucial to those of you who are already invested in the academies debate, but we surveyed 1k+ MNers recently on this and nearly one-third of them said they didn't know enough about academies to proffer a point of view on the question of academisation - so tbh we don't agree that a webchat with the experts (who after all are under no pressure to toe any particular party line) is of no value - we think it would be really useful to the evidently pretty large numbers of our users who genuinely aren't sure what to think or what approach might be best.
