Petition telling Barack Obama to butt out of British affairs (he plans to address parliament and tell us all why we should stay in the EU - like its any of his business )

I have to say that having the American President try to encourage British voters to stay in the EU is bound to backfire for the following reasons:

• The Americans have made statements on the EU that make it clear that they want the UK to stay in as it helps American interests in the EU. That makes it clear that the American government view the Brits as basically puppets who they influence in their own interests. That puts my back up immediately and since this is a very emotional issue with British sovereignty at stake voting to please American interests is the opposite of what this should about.

• President Obama has mixed popularity in the UK I think. He has shown disdain towards the UK for years. In his first year in office he specifically said that the USA does NOT have a special relationship with the UK. Over the years there have been various snubs towards the UK, visiting British Prime Ministers have been snubbed at the White House (things like joint press conferences, state dinners etc.. that are usually accorded to visiting dignitaries didn't happen for Gordon Brown when he visited.) Obama expressed support for Argentina on the Falkland Island issue despite the actual Islanders overwhelming desire to stay a part of the UK... Basically a man who has made it clear he dislikes the UK and what it represents is the last person to tell us how we should vote and any positive comments he may make about the UK now will smack of hypocrisy to me!

• The irony of the leader of a country that fought a war to successfully declare independence from foreign control wants to urge us to stay in the Eu to be subject to foreign control.

Since I have decided to vote to leave I think his involvement will backfire and hopefully have the opposite effect. I might be alone in thinking this, am I?

Hmmmm, on the fence about this one. While I certainly don't think Obama should be lecturing us on a possible Brexit, I also think no Brit will take a blind bit of notice of him anyway. He's history, he's just using up the last few months of his presidency doing a few fluffy speeches to the foreigners.

Good points rain and limer. And I don't think people will listen much either - its the cheek of the man that really pisses me off. Can you imagine a British prime minister going over to America and lecturing Americans on how they should vote in an election? It would be unthinkable! So why is it okay for him to come over here and tell Brits how they should be voting? I think its very misguided of him and extremely misguided of whoever invited him (David bloody Cameron, no doubt), to think this is a good idea. Butt out Obama!

The Queen is not impressed. She is not coming back to London to meet him and instead said he has to visit her in Windsor.

UK+EU = TTIP Corporate wet dream for the USA x a million.

I posted about TTIP on another thread. It is exactly why Obama wants us to stay in the EU, to benefit US corporations. And he will screw us right over to do so.
