Mothers are taking shorter career breaks than ever before

In papers today here

That full-time mother group getting aeriated. But the economy of most households is now based upon two incomes.

Interesting, but do you know if it is just 1,000 women in London or was the survey done across the UK? It is a London newspaper so I am curious?

I would imagine the phenomenon to be more pronounced in London where housing is so expensive and you are nearer so many high paying jobs so the opportunity cost of not working is also higher.

I took 1 year's maternity leave ( a great luxury) for each of my children before returning to pt work. that adds up to 2 years' total - so not far off from the 2.3 year total in the survey. Though strictly speaking not a career break since I was still employed during that time.

I think it's all women, not just Londoners. It was in other papers, but I couldn't find a link.
