part 1

The events of NYE were shocking enough; the subsequent minimising and under-reporting were an affront to women's rights to equality across Europe.

It's a testament to the tenacity and commitment of this community that we are at thread VII; do join the discussion and feel free to share the links and letters to anyone you think may wish to be part of this important debate.

We are currently awaiting the approval of a petition to parliament.

Shortly we will post links for those who want to take a proactive part in safeguarding the rights of all UK women to live in freedom from the fear of mass sexual assault as we sadly saw in NYE and reports of which are finally seeing daylight across Europe.

Just to correct a typo:

On New Year’s Eve, women across the EU were subjected to mass sexual assaults previously unknown in Europe. We ask the Government to bring forward proposals to ensure that attacks on women such as though those seen in the recent New Year’s Eve attacks in Europe do not happen in the UK.

WillBeatJanuaryBlues · 21/01/2016 12:40

^^ simple and clear and wide encompassing

HelpTheAnimalsFirst · 21/01/2016 13:06

This is the header

"Women in the UK must be free to work, travel and live free of sexual violence"

so it does not have to be repeated within the body of the petition.

BungoWomble · 21/01/2016 13:16

Sounds fine to me, go for it.

HelpTheAnimalsFirst · 21/01/2016 13:25

Whatever we submit, it's not going to be quite right. My last version is:

On New Year’s Eve, women across the EU were subjected to mass sexual assaults of a type previously unknown in Europe. We demand that Government brings forward proposals for extra measures to uphold UK women's rights, safety & freedom, and to expand police understanding and response to such behaviour.

If it fails, then we resubmit with entirely different wording.

LongWayRound Thanks

MariscallRoad · 21/01/2016 13:49

Long, I am dyslexic and some times I do typos

HelpTheAnimalsFirst · 21/01/2016 13:59

OK, a version has been created. It is currently transiting earth awaiting 5 support signatures. I understood from the person who did the first petition that the proposer (me) has to include email addr of supporters. But that is not so. I have to circularise a notice from HOC to all 5 asking them to click a link and add their details themselves. I have done that. It is now 2pm. Once all 5 have signed & clicked, the petition request will automatically be picked up by Petitions Office.

WillBeatJanuaryBlues · 21/01/2016 16:17

well done Help - here we go second time.

If wording fails again I strongly suggest picking straight back up and going again.

But fingers crossed it wont.

HelpTheAnimalsFirst · 21/01/2016 17:04

It's now 5pm and 3 of the 5 have click-signed the confirmation that they are in support. I guess the other two are still at work ........

I agree. If this one fails we get back on the horse.

Wordsaremything · 21/01/2016 17:28

We need to add Robert Preston and Yasmin alibhai brown to list of supportive journalists.

Wordsaremything · 21/01/2016 17:29

Yeeaah! Looking good - Help :)

HelpTheAnimalsFirst · 21/01/2016 20:34

All supporters responded, petition awaiting approval or otherwise. We'll see. In the end, wording was a bit different to how it appears in Inkanta's post.
