You're taking the piss out of something which is upsetting a lot of people

paulaplumpbottom · 06/12/2006 20:39

a bit cheeky don't you think?

ParanoidSurreyHousewife · 06/12/2006 20:41

But what is truly upsetting is the number of people who are more upset about the wording of the title...

I feel for people on MN going through trqgic circumstances. I wonder how often MB has to think about how to word her thread titles for fear fo the backlash.

stinkyandjake · 06/12/2006 20:46

why do you lot come on the 'in the news' forum if you don't want to read what is in the news? surely you must realise 90 odd % of the time it is sad, distressing news. what kind of news do you want exactly?

OP posts:
handlemecarefully · 06/12/2006 20:47

oh come on now, don't be so cynical and provocative....

Carmenere · 06/12/2006 20:50

It comes up on the active convos section that most people use and as there isn't a without 'in the news ' option I find it a bit upsetting to be reminded of a child tragically suffering everytime I look at the screen.

Martian Bishop is going through hell with a dying dh, martian bishop doesn't need to worry about how she words her posts, she is a valued member of this site. There is no comparison.

BahHunkBug · 06/12/2006 20:53

Are you for real PSH?

I mean, really?

FFS!

I posted a thread asking people not to put things like "toddler ripped apart by angry kangaroo, entrails everywhere, OMG, the blood, the gore, the guts!" in thread titles.

And somehow this means that I don't give a shite about anything and am probably chuckling at the more tragic news story.

Baby dies in house fire? What a hoot!
Schoolkids all killed on a bus crash? Couldn't be funnier!
Old lady leapt upon by evil hooligans? Made my day!

FFS!

WelshBoris · 06/12/2006 20:54

Not nice comparing MBs situation TBH

BahHunkBug · 06/12/2006 20:54

Yes, that too, WB

MerryChristmasfromQV · 06/12/2006 20:56

Agree WB.

pooka · 06/12/2006 20:59

I also get really narked at upsetting thread titles. I know you don;t have to click on the thread, but still...

Happy threads?

Sales of 4 by 4's plummetted! Including the second hand market. Hurrah!

BahHunkBug · 06/12/2006 21:01

Oh, yes, I saw that, Pooka! Now that is good news

pooka · 06/12/2006 21:03

I had a spring in my step this morning when the paper arrived

stinkyandjake · 06/12/2006 21:04

i suggest some of you don't come on the 'in the news' forum if you don't want to be depressed, upset, distressed etc. lets face it, most news is depressing and this is a news forum so stop f*ing moaning.

OP posts:
Carmenere · 06/12/2006 21:06

You don't have to go into the 'in the news' section to see the thread titles!!!!They come up in the active convos section which most of us use.

BahHunkBug · 06/12/2006 21:06

You do know there are other ways you can see In The News topic thread headers than just clicking on the topic itself, right?

BahHunkBug · 06/12/2006 21:07

LOL Carmenere! Great minds

SnafuOutOfHiding · 06/12/2006 21:08

Actually, stinky, this is a parenting forum. Perhaps you'd be better off perusing the Daily Mail site...

ParanoidSurreyHousewife · 06/12/2006 21:08

No idea who posted the original thread as we're in name-change season.

The irony about the thread posted this evening is that the majority of posts which keep it in Active Convos are about the title. There isn't even a link to the actual news item so far. If the thread had been kept to those who were discussing the sotry it would have slipped off at least an hour ago.

stinkyandjake · 06/12/2006 21:08

no i didn't. i have only been on this site recommended by someone from another site for about 2 weeks. don't come on here much. what active convos? aint gotta clue.

OP posts:
lulumama · 06/12/2006 21:08

i have to agree.... seeing some of the thread titles coming up over and over , when they are really distressing, is not pleaseant. nothing to do with wanting to be on the ;in the news ' part of the forum!

telling people to stoip f*cking moaning is a bit full on IMO.......

it is perfectly acceptable that distressing thread titles are not welcomed by all.....and there is no need to be aggressive.

paulaplumpbottom · 06/12/2006 21:09

Hey! Theres no need to get nasty.

lulumama · 06/12/2006 21:10

active convos...the alst 60 conversations with posts ....

when you click on 'all topics ' you get the last 60 threads that people are posting on and no way to filter out the 'in the news' threads.

lulumama · 06/12/2006 21:10

paranoid...i think that proves the point re these sorts of news threads....

handlemecarefully · 06/12/2006 21:11

I own a 4x4 and I'm not bothered about the second hand market. It won't kill me if we can't sell it on when the time comes to trade up - I'll just send it for scrap or give it to the cleaner as a run around, and may think twice about my annual weekend at the Lainsborough / Ritz / Savoy (but will probably go any way)
