Well there's no way that I think I would have managed an 8 hour journey with the TomTom One. In the first week of use it has tried me to take 2 one-ways roads from the wrong direction, and suggested that I could turn off the M23 when there wasn't a junction. It also tried to divert me from the straight road to my brothers house - when it re-computed the time taken once I stubbornly kept to my preferred road it showed that my route was 10 minuted faster (so why didn't they show that as the "fastest route" [hmmm]?). I suspect that it will have its uses, but it is not quite the wondertoy that it could be.

They must have had a rough idea of the distance of the hospital, personally think they are a bit daft!!

That's the trouble, people have satnav and then just don't use their brains at ALL, I mean wouldn't you have got suspicious before the outskirts of Manchester? I think so! see what I mean?!

Oh God,the thought of even opening a manual for some such gadget brings me out in a cold sweat...

Whats wrong with an atlas? I got one for 2 quid in Lidl a couple of weeks ago, and ity doesn;t talk to me in a naff pseudo-American voice.

can't imagine driving formbrentwood to manchester by mistake..they were onlky supposed to go 12 miles!

the most fun is having two sta navs (a gremlin and a tomtom) and a map reader all competing to be correct

my friend has sat nav in his car, and he goes in the wrong direction on purpose to get one over on it.

Sad really, when you feel you have to score petty victories over a bit of plastic.

they seem particularly abd on roundabouts and big juctions you have to make a move before they tell uyo and then they have an apoplectic fit trying to reprogrammes themselves

SatNav is is to navigation as a spellchecker is to spelling.

And that's just about all that needs to be said, IMHO.

It's like that village where the locals are making a tidy profit from towing satnav users out of the river and providing them with hot tea! And the coach driver who tried to take a load of pensioners down a country lane and got it jammed for about 4 hours. In the end they had to take down a fence and drive it across a field. Why do people put such blind faith in these things?

So yes, just daft I think .

in regards to the ambulancemen I read in a different article that they were not actually told which hospital to go to, but just told where to go (whether they programmed it in themselves or not I don't know).

SO it seems a bit harsh to mock them so much, when they were new to the area and didn't know how far the place was.

Did wonder why they didn't use their radio before though.

I think with satnav some people rely on it so completely they forget it makes mistakes and to use their common sense as well
