to overfeed a dog until it becomes so overweight its health is affected is cruelty and you land up in court, but if you overfeed / feed you kids the wrong stuff until they are obese / morbidly obese, nothing happens?
i read an article in the Times about 2 men whose dog was taken away and who landed up in court on an animal cruelty charge because their dog was morbidly obese, and it got me thinking. does this mean that dogs are more important than children?
is it cruel to make a dog obese, but not a child?
if your obese dog means you are a cruel owner, then does an obese child mean you are a cruel parent? if not, why not?
should obese children be removed from their parents, or put on the at risk register and the parents forced to attend sessions with a dietician or similar?
- and for the record - i am not including the food allergies/steroids/i know a child whose morbidly obese but its a medical condition and you never know whose got medical problems..... i am not talking about the few and it is a few as a percentage of obese children, where it is a medical problem, i am talking about the main reason for obesity - feeding the kids too much, or junk, or just not ensuring they are physically active.
