I used to enjoy his shows too FIS. Sounds like he was a very nice man, much liked by his colleagues and with lots of friends. Seems so sad and odd to think of a Radio 1 DJ ending up in a nursing home, his arthritis must have been very severe.

yes I thought that too marina - maybe there were other factors (not reported). I think he was respected by so many people and was, very much, a pioneer when he started out on radio.

the home he was in is near where I used to live and is for ex-actors, entertainers etc. - Thora Hird was there before she died. I believe it's quite a jolly place, which is something.

what I mean is, I think people often go there because it's to do with an actor's benevolent fund or whatever it's called, not because they absolutely have to go into a home.

i've seen that home on the news. it's very sad, not 'arf. didn't realise he was australian either.
