OP posts:
Fauve · 23/11/2006 13:13

I'm in tears here.

DumbledoresGirl · 23/11/2006 13:14

Oh dear. I read all about his big come back on the world at one and then noticed for the last few weeks he hasn't been on it. Now I know why. How very sad. I believe he has a wife and small children.

Tributes on radio 4 now. his diary of his treatment was very very moving. he wrote in good housekeeping if there's one thing he should have done was go to the doctor when his wife told him to, but he left it to late. So sad.

harpsichordcarrier · 23/11/2006 13:38

oh me too so very very my heart was in my mouth when they announced a specially extended edition of the World at One today
I have so much admiration for him and his work, what a fantastically clever and talented man and a terrible loss

earlysbird · 23/11/2006 13:39

Oh that is so

So sad ,his radio diary was one of the most moving things I have ever read and I made dh read his piece in good housekeeping because he had made me mad nopt going to the dr over something and it mae him go .
He has 4 year old twins..

puddle · 23/11/2006 13:45

This is so sad. 58 is no age at all.

I was so pleased when he returned to work after his treatment - I'd missed him on WATO

puddle · 23/11/2006 13:45

I had no idea his kids were so young. Devastating for them and the rest of his family.

Carmenere · 23/11/2006 13:50

I am very sad at this, I saw him recently at a recording of Any Questions, a terrible loss of a great journalist far, far too early

lemonaid · 23/11/2006 13:51

Oh, how sad. I hadn't realised the cancer had come back.

TinyGang · 23/11/2006 14:01

Oops started another thread - I thought you'd all have known about this.

What a loss - another loss to R4 (following on from John Peel and Linda Smith). I thought he was a brilliant interviewer and a lovely voice too

tortoiseshell · 23/11/2006 15:07

So So sad - I heard his diary of treatment, and it sounded like he was doing ok. Really sad for his family.

mummylin2495 · 23/11/2006 15:30

I have only just found out about this from mumsnet ,I too have listened to all of his diary through his battle and thought he was doing ok and had returned to work.My deepest sympathies to his wife and all of his family. What a brave man.

JoolsToo · 23/11/2006 19:44

oh how sad.

I heard him being interviewed, I think it was on Jeremey Vine but not sure. He was with his wife talking about his cancer and his amputation - it was quite invasive iirc, but I thought he was in the clear.

Really sad!

JanH · 23/11/2006 19:55

He was only diagnosed a year ago - it must have been a vicious form. (His father died of cancer when he was only 18...)

Such a good interviewer, and he always sounded as if he was smiling. Lovely man.

hannahsaunt · 23/11/2006 20:31

I came to this as I got into the car expecting to hear Country File (we had been in the pool) and it was the middle of the extended WATO in tribute to Nick Clarke. I sat in the car and wept for his family. Poor ds2 didn't understand at all but he is ages with their boys and it is just so tragic. He will be sorely missed across the spectrum of things he did for Radio 4 (I was a big fan of Round Britain quiz).

3andnomore · 23/11/2006 23:53

That is so sad and tragic!RIP Nick!

Fattymumma · 24/11/2006 00:03

Am i the only one that thought you mean the hairdresser?

I don't listn to Radio 4 (hence me thinking you mean the hairdresser) but that is such sad news that he seemed to be recovering and then to die so tragicly.

my thoughts to his family
