DEATH ROW BRETON ON WAY BACK FROM PAKISTANI PRISON

I have just read this on the BBC website and feel very chuffed about it, sorry I am no good at links.

It does bring up all sorts of questions about the difference between judicial systems though - apparently the family of the taxi driver who died still want him to be executed as anything else is ' dishonourable'.

What is ' honour ' then? in the context of sharia law?

well tbh I'm glad he at least served his time in a Pakistani Prison. He doesn't deny he killed the man, just argues that it wasn't murder - so still deserved to be locked up IMO.

I'm of the strong opinion that if you commit a crime abroad, you should get tried, sentenced and serve your sentence in that country - and under the rules of that country.

I agree, but the fact is he was actually cleared in the High court of Islamabad on the grounds of self defense( or Karachi, can't remember). But he was subsequently found guilty by a sharia court. So where is the sense in having two legal systems which are in conflict?

he was acquitted of murder....doesn't mean he wasn't guilty of Manslaughter..

Apparantly this was in self defense. The taxi driver tried to rape him at gun point.

If that is the case how awful for this poor man

He now has to try and rebuild his life.

he has served a very long time in prison though hasnt he ,18yrs . If the driver did attempt to rape him at gunpoint then imagine how you would feel if the same had happened to you and you ended up spending 18 yrs in prison?
