26 year old occupational therapist student missing in Glasgow.
Mumsnetters Please keep your eyes and ears open - you might find something beneficial to her being found.

OP posts:

I too agree with you quietlysuggests. This money will not be lining anyones pockets, It will help with the costs of running the family farm and of bringing Karen home to be buried.

Psipsina · 16/04/2015 15:47

How do you know that? Please just stop speculating. These are real people, I'm sure they can make their own minds up.

I wish this thread would disappear

2rebecca · 16/04/2015 16:14

Stop posting on it and moving it up the list then

SirVixofVixHall · 16/04/2015 16:28

I can't see any mention of the fund on the link, could someone advise me please? I would like to donate.

There you go.

blowinahoolie · 16/04/2015 16:42

I am honestly surprised the thread is still standing after the amount of sheer speculation by so many posters. It's disgusting.

Justusemyname · 16/04/2015 16:47

Report it if you feel the need, blow.

Confirmed Karen has been found deceased.

RIP Karen Flowers.

expatinscotland · 16/04/2015 16:48

It can easily cost thousands of pounds to repatriate a person, and adult funerals are expensive. Even simple headstones are easily £2000. The family will have many expenses relating to having to travel at short notice and lodging, etc. A collection is very useful.

Momagain1 · 16/04/2015 16:57

And presumably they will have travel expenses through the rest of the investigation and trial. Long after the blurge of concerned citizens has moved on to a new crime.

blowinahoolie · 16/04/2015 16:59

Where do you draw the line, many families of victims such as this need financial help in the initial stages of finding out this news. Do you donate to every similar scenario then? Just curious.

squoosh · 16/04/2015 17:01

I think people generally donate to things that they can relate to or things they feel particularly moved by.

Do you disapprove?

ZingDramaQueenOfSheeba · 16/04/2015 17:05

blow

your posts are in bad taste

blowinahoolie · 16/04/2015 17:13

I am stating that if do this with one family, you need to do it with all others from now on surely.

No, I am not against it, but just wondering why funds are started for some cases and not others.

blowinahoolie · 16/04/2015 17:15

Zing what posts? I haven't speculated on the case, only sad for the outcome which was announced today. Many posts on this thread have been in bad taste which should have been deleted long ago but are still standing!

expatinscotland · 16/04/2015 17:17

'Where do you draw the line, many families of victims such as this need financial help in the initial stages of finding out this news. Do you donate to every similar scenario then? Just curious.'

There is no line Hmm. It's possible to set up a gofundme or crowdfunding for anything as long as it's not for an illegal activity and if people don't care to contribute, they are under no obligation to do so. You donate to whatever you feel compelled to, or nothing. It's up to individuals.

Redglitter · 16/04/2015 17:17

It's down to people to start them. Her friends in Ireland started this. it's not like the police set it up. Her friends chose to set it up presumably other people's friends haven't

I think it's a nice idea

squoosh · 16/04/2015 17:19

It's churlish to try and pick holes in someone's decision to donate a few pounds to this particular fund. There isn't an organisation that randomly starts funds for the families of murder victims. The people who started this fund were friends of Karen Buckley's. Friends trying to do a nice thing for a family going through the worst nightmare possible.

And no, because someone donates to this fund does not make them morally obliged to donate to all similar funds. That's like saying it's unfair to single out one charity over all others for a monthly donation.

mrsmeerkat · 16/04/2015 17:21

Ireland has a significantly smaller population than the UK so people are likely to known know of each other blow. Maybe that's why.

blowinahoolie · 16/04/2015 17:21

All cases like this are terrible and I feel for the families, it's shocking, but unfortunately I cannot afford to contribute to every family who has gone through this. One family is not more deserving than another. That was my point, NOT a dig at this particular family, but about crowd funding in general and how do you choose between each individual fund....no offence was intended, just a genuine query after finding out about the fund through another poster on the previous page.

blowinahoolie · 16/04/2015 17:23

thanks mrsmeerkat for a constructive answer :)

expatinscotland · 16/04/2015 17:24

'but unfortunately I cannot afford to contribute to every family who has gone through this.'

Then don't. And your point is? Hmm

squoosh · 16/04/2015 17:27

Who is asking you to donate to every family who has gone through this?

No one can afford to donate money to every family that suffers this kind of tragedy. As I said earlier people donate to causes that they feel particularly moved by or they can relate to. In this case for example I'm sure the majority of people who donated are Irish and Scottish. Scottish and Irish people are most likely to have taken an interest in the case.

I hope that is constructive.

blowinahoolie · 16/04/2015 17:27

expat why are you so aggressive in your posts??? If someone has a query, rather than shooting them down, try and be more helpful rather than bitchy.

expatinscotland · 16/04/2015 17:30

'expat why are you so aggressive in your posts??? If someone has a query, rather than shooting them down, try and be more helpful rather than bitchy.'

You are entitled to you opinion on how you construe peoples' posts, but your queries strike me as poorly disguised knocks, rather than queries. IMO. Just as you see mine as aggro or bitchy, I see yours as in poor taste.

I see I am not alone in this sentiment.

Alas. Carry on.

blowinahoolie · 16/04/2015 17:32

No one's asking squoosh, it was a genuine query about crowd funding in general. mrsmeerkat answered it (without any hint of hostility), and it makes sense in this particular case.

Moving on....
