All sorts of drugs that were outlawed after 1977 are legal at the moment in Ireland, if anyone is interested.

The Dáil is to sit late tonight to pass emergency legislation

And this is why

As I told my students who were discussing this during this mornings class 'just because they are legal does not mean you have to do them you know?'

ihatemyphone99 · 11/03/2015 14:49

But you still have to travel to England for an abortion. Idiot MPs.

Imscarlet · 11/03/2015 15:16

Bit of an over simplification. Leaving aside the rights and wrongs of it, the abortion issue has been put to the people of Ireland 5 times in the past 30 years and the majority rules as is the case in democracy. The issue with the legalisation of drugs is that a legal challenge was taken on a point of law and was upheld. Oranges and apples. We call our 'MPs' TD's.

"the abortion issue has been put to the people of Ireland 5 times in the past 30 years and the majority rules as is the case in democracy."

That is the problem with democracy. Everyone has a vote, including idiots, religious nutters, and misogynists.

Regardless of whether you agree with them or not, they are as entitled to their vote as you are and as it stands, there are more idiots, religious nutters and misogynists in Ireland than pro-choice people.
