To rescue a dog, they ask you all kinds of questions and sometimes even visit your house to make sure it (and you) are suitable). But any d**mn fool can have a kid.

It just makes me want to cry. And there are people who are just desperate to have and love a baby.

this sort of horrendous and deliberate abuse & neglect makes me so very angry ... i forget all my nice non judgemental attitudes and want 5 minutes with them in a locked room to really show them some suffering....

In SOmerset the rule of thumb was that if one aprent was an addict and the other coping, then the child could be safely left; if both were or there were complications (eg, addict leaving needlesa round, worry of general safety) then SS would intervene and ultimately remove.

i knew of a couple who were heroin users and also smoked alot of weed.they used to give their baby blow-backs(from about 3 months old)to make her sleep all the time.ss didnt get involved till the lo was 2.5 and the gas company who'd gone to do a repair reported them to the police cos of the state of the house.
i see people i know to be drug addicts walking around with their children all the time where i live.they go into the chemist to get their methodone and take the lo's in a buggy.
im sorry but i think you should have to prove youve been clean for a certain no. of years before you are allowed to be responsible for a child.

this is just plain sick, if my boy wasn't sleping now i'd go and give him a big hug - how can ppl do this to defensless children? it's sick.

I WISH we had to go through a test prior to conception to evaluate our potential to be a fit parent. It might save a lot of grief in the long run for little mites such as this.
