Flu vaccine - can I believe my ears??

On radio 4 a doctor and someone else have just suggested that because the flu vaccine is essentially the wrong one, people developing "flu like illness" should go to their GP and get antiviral drugs. People, if you found it hard to get an appointment before, just wait until this gets out!!

Yes I was a bit surprised about that too, not least because I thought it would be more sensible to stay away from doctors' waiting rooms if you have flu!

Every year there are various types/strains of flu viruses flying around the world and we have to predict WHICH strain will hit the UK.

According to someone on the BBC today, it takes at least 5-months to produce the vaccines to a flu stain using chicken eggs, so they HAVE to start production early.

I'm not sure what pees me off more, that every year in sounds like an educated gamble the UK will ever get it right, or every time I have my poached eggs on toast I'll now think of flu viruses.
