Arabella, yes, a secondary system that wasn't turned off/broken on MH370 was responsible for the knowledge that the plane kept flying for seven hours.

Here, unless further info emerges, I am going with the explanation of the Indonesian government that the plane went down into the sea shortly after its last contact and that the crash may have been something to do with the storm. Hopefully the wreckage can be located and the black box accessed.

YonicSleighdriver · 29/12/2014 10:24

Thanks plinky.

TheHoneyBadger · 29/12/2014 12:06

me too in terms of hopes yonic.

i'm a bit baffled about how asking a couple of logical questions constitutes being a conspiracy theorist.

TheHoneyBadger · 29/12/2014 12:09

that's how come we didn't have the info on the last thread btw yonic - and what i meant about it was later when manufacturers were being a bit more 'forthcoming' about the procedures involved - without giving away security sensitive information whilst making it clear it wasn't a flick a switch from the cockpit type operation for obvious security reasons.

YonicSleighdriver · 29/12/2014 13:25

Yeah, I can understand more details come out later, maybe when problems have been fixed or whatever.

TheHoneyBadger · 29/12/2014 16:17

or when it seems clear it wasn't a hijacking or whatever. i don't know. or when enough rational people were saying hang on a minute - surely you can't just turn off a transponder from a cockpit after the events of 9/11 re: reassuring the world airplane security wasn't that idiotic became more important than acting as if mentioning 'any' info about airplane security was equivalent to treason. or it was people speaking without permission - i don't know. but clearly the 'no one will answer that question but enjoy your conspiracy theories' type aproach wasn't going down well.

TheHoneyBadger · 29/12/2014 16:23

i have apologised for mixing up posters but the reason i assumed the authority on the subject pilot on this thread was the same as the one on the last was that that one, with a very similar tone, was plagued by people assuming they were male and this one has 'female' at the end of their name which is an unusual addition for a nickname on mumsnet. i assumed oh, they got tired of being assumed a male so added female to their name or when they changed names put female in there to make it clear. just to explain my mistake. which i have apologised for. unusual to see a nickname plus 'female' on here though.

YonicSleighdriver · 29/12/2014 18:01

I've encountered Wildbill otherwhere, Honey. She's a robust poster, for sure.

I think the expert on the mh370 threads was an aerospace engineer? Backinthebox is the only pilot I "know" on MN.

GoofyIsACow · 30/12/2014 00:24

Just seen reports of smoke on an island close to search site... Was twitter but seemed to be cnn reporting?

ChaircatMiaow · 30/12/2014 06:15

Unconfirmed reports that a plane door and an emergency slide, along with other debris have been found

TheHoneyBadger · 30/12/2014 06:58

yes yonic - as i say flu and new meds had me not even able to remember the word 'transponder' Grin let alone poster names. i have apologised, and now explained the logic of how i made 4 from one plus one.

are these reports coming from east of an island? that was where was shown on the leaked image reported on the other day.

DoesntLeftoverTurkeySoupDragOn · 30/12/2014 08:22

They seem fairly sure they've found evidence that it crashed into the sea. :(

Lokisglowstickofdestiny · 30/12/2014 08:39

Bodies are now being found. RIP.

TheHoneyBadger · 30/12/2014 08:57

poor passengers and poor relatives.

YonicSleighdriver · 30/12/2014 08:57

BBC doesn't give a location but they sound pretty sure they've got it Sad

TheHoneyBadger · 30/12/2014 09:00

i was interested to know if the leaked image and the location matched up, i'd also feel reassured to know the disappearance from atc screens matched crash site iyswim. though all of that serves to make mh370 even weirder it does reassure that this was a tragic but rational event iyswim.

anyway all of that is for later. priority is the poor blumming families waiting for news. 40hrs in relatively warm water does not entirely rule out survivors so am still crossing everything for that possibility and i dare say relatives are too.

NotPennysBoat · 30/12/2014 10:15

This is so tragic :(

If they've found a door and an emergency slide does that suggest passengers may have tried to escape? Horrible news for all concerned but as PP said, still a glimmer of hope that there may be survivors.

HollyJollyDillydolly · 30/12/2014 12:59

Poor people and their families :(

Jackie0 · 30/12/2014 13:05

Its terribly sad. I hope they didn't suffer. Those poor poor families .

Spoonme · 30/12/2014 21:16

Rest in peace you poor poor people
