No, there's no financial connection between Air Asia and Malaysian Airlines.

We can only hope the plane is found soon - sympathies to all the families waiting for news.

FrankH · 28/12/2014 12:41

Air Asia is not run by Malaysian Airlines - if Wikipedia is right. Apparently in 2012 it won two awards as the world's best low-cost airline.

Asian airlines are certainly not the only airlines which have lost planes in mysterious circumstances. As far as general safety is concerned, some rank among the best in the world.

Stealthpolarbear · 28/12/2014 13:05

Hey are they saying there was a Brit on board

KareninsGirl · 28/12/2014 13:37

One brit on board according to bbc. next of kin informed.

air Asia is a budget airline but has a very good safety record apparently.

I hope they find this plane. I still often wonder what happened to the poor souls on MH370

Stealthpolarbear · 28/12/2014 13:49

T the statement from airline lists passengers' nationalities and no mention there

WandaFuca · 28/12/2014 13:53

Could be that the passenger has dual nationality.

Apparently there was very bad weather - thunderstorms - at the time the plane lost contact.

GoofyIsACow · 28/12/2014 14:16

This is terrible :(

slithytove · 28/12/2014 14:25

This makes me feel sick to my stomach. My parents take that flight 8/10 times a year.

Stealthpolarbear · 28/12/2014 14:34

statement from airline

GoofyIsACow · 28/12/2014 14:47

How come the UK passenger keeps appearing/reaapearing?

Dual nationality prhaps?

slithytove · 28/12/2014 15:19

Yes, they perhaps flew on an Sg or Malay air passport

LuckyLopez · 28/12/2014 15:24

Hull born Choi Chi Man and his daughter Zoe were on the flight. His Singaporean wife and other child travelled on an earlier flight.

Sounds like dual nationality.

Stealthpolarbear · 28/12/2014 15:26

H have they started to name the passengers?
How awful for their families

papooshka · 28/12/2014 21:45

I know the British man and his family, it is so so sad.

Stealthpolarbear · 28/12/2014 22:35

Tell me off if this is inappropriate but when the last plane was lost there was talk of it having landed somewhere and being found. Why is all hope lost on this one ? Is it that the area is more covered ? It doesn't seem to be as much of a mystery yet no one is explaining it.
Sorry to hear that pap. AWFUL FOR THE Family :(

Namechangeyetagaintohide · 28/12/2014 22:55

I think stealth because the other flight they just lost contact - no hint of anything untoward.

This time we know there was bad weather and a request from the pilot to fly above it or something ? I think it's seen as more likely something has happened ?

Happy to be corrected in this though.

Stealthpolarbear · 28/12/2014 23:00

es maybe. But they were saying they still don't understand why the pilot didn't issue a distress call. Maybe I've got that wrong

GoofyIsACow · 28/12/2014 23:08

I agree Stealth and again I hope I am not being inappropriate saying this but also there seems to be very minimal news coverage on this one. I think they probably do know where this one is, the silence is, I am hoping, out of respect and to avoid speculation.

It is just incredibly sad and terrifying

LynetteScavo · 28/12/2014 23:12

Im surprised how quickly this in no longer headline news - as though disappearing planes is now normal. Sad

GoofyIsACow · 28/12/2014 23:19

Yes Lynette, that is very true :(

HowsTheSerenity · 28/12/2014 23:23

A Fox News host has said the reason for this plane going missing is due to the Pilots using the metric system Hmm

It's headline news in Australia still but possibly because it's occurring in our region?
