I think this is an important question.
I am a massive proponent of free markets, capitalism, and conservatism - but the benefits disappear when regulation, cartels/monopolies and lobbying force out small business. Markets without freedom (such as those overburdened with EU red tape) are not good examples of functioning free markets at all.
