Bizarre parody political advert in Observer?

Did anyone else see the strange one-page advert in Sunday's Observer, sasying there should be unlimited air travel growth, with statements like "150,000 people die each year because of climate change, that's a statistic we can live with", and saying that the effects of climate change would be in the future, when most of us would be dead anyway?

I can't find the advert, and want to see the website mentioned on it ...

Yes, i saw that, i was horrified, and then on the next page there was a small ad for advertising standards
or something like that)saying that they are there to remove such ads! does that make

alcyone · 11/10/2006 17:10

...sense?

alcyone · 11/10/2006 17:59

Go to advertising standard website....you will probably find it there.

southeastastralplain · 11/10/2006 18:03

i've found it (forgot to put the papers out) it's www.unlimited-spurt.org (can't link for some reason)

southeastastralplain · 11/10/2006 18:07

it's quite clever!

NotQuiteCockney · 11/10/2006 20:27

Ah, thanks for finding it!

I thought the advert was cute, I could tell it was a piss-take ("by then we'll mostly be dead anyway"?!?), but I thought it was an environmental group, not an advertising one.

The webpage is a bit overwhelming, with the union jack and all.

Yes!
lmao about it.

NotQuiteCockney · 11/10/2006 20:29

Oh, wait, it also goes through to stuff from anti-airport groups and greenpeace, too.

yes it was in The Guardian, too- made me look twice!

foxinsocks · 11/10/2006 20:33

it was in a few other papers aswell

I totally tune out the ads now (in papers) but someone else pointed it out to us

Marina · 11/10/2006 20:34

Even the Telegraph ran it and I assumed it had to be from an environmental coalition. Thanks for reminding me to check SPURT out. Would have been LOL funny had it not been too true for comfort.

foxinsocks · 11/10/2006 20:37

when I first saw it in the Sunday Tel, I actually thought there was a possibility that it might have been some right wing pro business pro flying group - once I saw it in the others though, it was pretty clear what the aim was!

NotQuiteCockney · 11/10/2006 20:39

Well, the whole "150,000 die per year, and that's a stat we can live with" isn't quite the line I'd hope a pro-airline PR would take. (The website is more direct, it says the 150,000 mainly live in Africa, as a reason not to care.)

no but there are some weird right wing groups out there
