Charlie Webster, Patron of the club, has resigned. She has made an appearance on Newsnight and extracts of her interview are now online.

"Nobody at Sheffield have acknowledged the severity of the crime".

Charlie Webster seems to be the only person taking a stance on this. Sheffield United should be ashamed of themselves.

My DH and sons are Wigan Athletic supporters. Wigan sacked Marlon King when he was convicted of punching a woman in a nightclub. Sacked him, not issued some mealy mouthed statement about him having served his time, or getting him fit again and selling him to another club. Sacked him, and no doubt lost a lot of money by it.

Footballers are constantly touted as role models. Absolutely no way would my kids be watching Sheffield Utd again if it was my club.

Jessica Ennis-Hill has said today she wants her name removing from a stand at Sheffield if they give him a job. Good on her.

yes ennis too - well done to her has said not in my name.

it is shockingly revealing of their attitude to women and violence against women that they have taken him back.

i wonder if his victim had been male if we'd see the same outcome?

I doubt that the victim -if male- would even have reported it.

Edam, thanks for linking the longer thread. Couldn't find it at the time.

Bastards have been tweeting sexual abuse threats to Ennis now. Sad

you're joking? for god's sake.

you'd think that might wake them up a bit as in errr look what you're supporting here and LOOK at how it makes men like that even more cocksure they can do whatever they like to women and it isn't a serious thing.

honeybadger

If the "your joking" was aimed at me.

You only need to look at the comments under the stories about teenage boys being abused by teachers, TAs etc to see that male victims of sexual abuse are seen as a joke.
