Parenthood - why so much conflicting advice?

I found this article on parenthood refreshing, here . Other than the obvious health related advice like not smoking (which I don't) and reducing alcohol consumption (I hardly drink anyway), I took no notice of media led advice when I was pregnant because it was always contradictory.

it is the same with any books. and any magazines. oh, and midwives, and doctors!

I'm sure scientists/'experts' etc read articles and think:
'I know - I will set out to try and prove this finding wrong because I can get a sh!t load of money from a grant and then sit on me @rse for three years saying "you're wrong and I'm right" before having to prove it'

I was also warned about 'deadly' peanuts...

I suppose greedy farmers, fishermen and supermarkets et al are somehow to blame as the eternal quest for cheaper and greater quantities has resulted in crappier food
for us. So salmonella is rare in Australia? Lucky them. Death by egg is not a nice way to go.
