Why are sex scandals always about Conservative MPs?

I'm sure there must be examples from the other parties and I know there have been affairs on all sides but whenever there's a particularly sleazy story, rent boys, suffocating with an orange in your month (?) dirty pics, it always seems to be a Tory.

Or are my recollections biased?

Historically it's been Tory sex scandals, Labour money scandals. In this case, a tabloid sex sting was allegedly carried out on several MPs, all Tories.

IMO the papers like to publish stuff that fits an existing template in their writing. They may just not bother to publish or entrap people that don't fit their stereotypes.

Yes, I do think this one leaves a particularly nasty taste. Not because of what the man did but because of the way he was entrapped.

'suffocating with an orange in your month'

Lots of conspiracy theories about those type of things i.e. possibly not real, but fitted up.

Inkanta · 29/09/2014 19:54

Poor man - a married man with 5 kids - being entrapped. He couldn't help it he was entrapped.

Hmm
claig · 29/09/2014 19:55

The conspiracy theories are so widespread that even the Daily Mail ended up reporting on some of them

Poor Ron Davies (Labour MP) had to resign after he was found out on Clapham Common at 3am one night. His excuse was that he was "looking for badgers".

prh47bridge · 30/09/2014 09:33

I doubt that MPs of other parties are any better (or worse) behaved than Conservatives. I think that many people still associate the Conservative party with certain moral and family values. Stories of Conservative MPs straying therefore have more resonance and are easier for the press to justify as being in the public interest than similar stories involving politicians from other parties.

Isitmebut · 30/09/2014 15:11

Explored .... ‘the orange’ was a good one, you missed unlikely couple John Major and Edwina Curry.

The Lib Dem tree huggers seem to want to hug the same sex, but I think any work place environment where pressure and employees spend a lot of time together, literally produces a ‘hot bed’ of opportunities.

But it’s not just the Conservatives getting involved in sex and horizontal folk dancing,

How about Labour’s Chris Bryant, Mr Newmark at least responded to a one-on-one request, could we argue that Captain Y-Fronts here was ‘soliciting’on a gay website to both seasoned and young more confused ‘members’ - and what happened to him?
www.thesun.co.uk/sol/homepage/news/1771888/Gay-pants-MP-Chris-Bryant-rewarded-as-he-is-appointed-Deputy-Leader-of-the-Commons.html

John ‘Slugger’ Prescott (for the punch to an idiot attacking him), the Labour Deputy power broker between Blair & Brown, with pictures man handling one of his employees he was having an affair with, on a kiss and tell, renamed John ‘Chipolata’ Prescott.

And Mr Blair, various rumours re Ms Caplin I think her name was, but how long was this going on for? We always knew that Mrs Murdock had ‘sleep overs’with the children at the Brown’s next door, but was she just using Gordon to get to Tony? lol

explored

You obviously never lived through the Jeremy Thorpe case.

That was a liberal scandal, just as Paddy Pantsdown was

WetAugust · 30/09/2014 22:13

is that Badgers spelt with an N? Grin

temporaryusername · 01/10/2014 00:23

Mark Oaten was Lib Dem, nuff said surely!

JulyKit · 01/10/2014 00:35

Tony Blair and Wendi Deng?

Cyril Smith?

JulyKit · 01/10/2014 00:36

Lord Rennard?

Isitmebut · 01/10/2014 13:58

Best re don’t leave out UKIP; although I suspect there is more nut than fruitiness in that band of merry people.

Farage was alleged to have had an affair with UKIP’s Press Officer Anabelle Fuller, according to former U-Kipper insider Nikki Sinclaire, denied of course.

Mr Farage who used to be a big knob in the City as a commodity broker, met his current German wife in Hamburg in 1996, when on a business trip visiting a German bank where apparently she was the interpreter. He divorced his first wife with two children in 1997 and married Kirsten in 1999, but as their successful legal action pointed out, there was no horizontal folk dancing in Germany or here, before the divorce.

OOAOML · 01/10/2014 14:48

Former UKIP? Where on earth does one go after the nuttiness that is UKIP?

claig · 01/10/2014 15:00

'Where on earth does one go after the nuttiness that is UKIP?'

David Campbell Bannerman, the man who wrote the UKIP 2010 manifesto, described by Farage as drivel, went to the Tories.

OOAOML · 01/10/2014 15:21

Really? I must have missed that one. I have to admit I am coming around to the theory that the Tories need to split off the UKIP-sympathisers amongst them and see what they have left, then possibly (I feel dirty for saying this) rebrand. It will be interesting to see what happens in the forthcoming by-elections. I am of the belief that the UKIP vote in Europe was more of a protest vote than a UKIP endorsement.

Did the SNP not have a sex scandal (there was an expenses link as well, but the money was paid back)? And David Blunkett (Labour) had an affair.

Behoove · 01/10/2014 15:24

Boak

Behoove · 01/10/2014 15:25

OOAOML · 01/10/2014 15:30

As long as you promise never ever to post the sunbed picture! Wink

Behoove · 01/10/2014 15:35

That is forever engraved on my mind. Those hairs....

Isitmebut · 01/10/2014 16:19

Claig .. re Ukip’s 2010 manifesto Farage called after he got all the votes, “drivel”, wasn’t this David two-names you mention (now back as a Conservative MEP) Ukip’s Deputy Leader at the time, replaced by Paul Nut -tall? Lol

And now hasn’t Carswell had his palm crossed, nay stained with the title of Deputy Leader on a Clacton win?

I’m not sure what’s the more sexual, that Ukip doesn’t know if it’s cuming or going with Conservatives, or Conservatives getting turned on by a Deputy Leader title that seem as rare as a condom in a brothel.

On a final sexual note, who is the biggest plonker, the former Ukip Deputy Leader the Conservatives only trust to be an MEP far away from Westminster, or the Great People’s Leader responsible for all policies, signing off on it???? BTW I have my own opinion.

JulyKit · 01/10/2014 19:49

Isitme I love your turn of phrase. Grin

Who heard today's attempts at innuendo from David Cameron: "going to bed with Nigel Farrage and waking up with Ed Miliband" (cum the next election, ooh-err..)

Isitmebut · 02/10/2014 16:01

JulyKit ... thank you, it's my Eaton education. lol

I guess we will hear that quote again before next May, but think about it, it could be worse as in a threesome, forming the filling of an idiot sandwich.
