Sad, but he lived to a good age and achieved so much.

Oh that is sad!

One of the most underrated composers of the twentieth century. Believed in harmony and melody and colour, and managed to appeal to popular taste. The avant-garde hated people like that.

Shame he died before all the 85th birthday celebrations happen in October. I agree he was an underrated composer - I like most of his music. I like bits of Bax as well. Can't quite get there with Britten though...
