Think it might be a good idea...get rid of Tony and his cronies but not let the Torys in!

no edam, democracy is good. Benevolent dictatorship is better. Living in a benevolent dictatorship and kidding onself its a democracy, a waste of time.

write to my mp, lol.

The last time I wrote to my MP (the Right Honourable Oana King at the time in very poor Bethnal Green - I was lucky to live in a trendy flat just by Spitalfield Market - but at the time it was one of the most deprived parts of London and pretty much still is) to beg her to do something really important she responded 6 months later.

She wrote to me and said that "due to an administrative error" my letter hadn't been seen the day before yesterday (i.e 6 months after I had sent it) By the time she wrote to me I had resolved the matter any way and chucked her apology in the bin !

Long live admin. errors and local authorities

edam - I am active in several pressure groups and an international human rights org. I care about their work and believe that the only way forward is to take action through such orgs. and chareties.

Sod all governments and their elections !

I have often thought that but when taking the time to look at leberal democrat policies they ted not to stand up, the local council tax one being a prime example.

It saddens me (and fills me with despair) that people don't use their vote

Plummymummy, what is it about the US that qualifies it as a nanny state? I really think the UK has a stronger nanny state culture. But, perhaps you have noticed things about the US that I wouldn't. Perhaps we should start another thread rather than hijack this one?

Edam, it was the timing of Gordon's article that I found particularly stomach turning. The loss of his first child was very sad and he is entitled to speak out about the pain if he so chooses. But, to publish the story just when he needs a sympathy boost in the polls is really low.

I recently voted Lib Dem in the local elections as did quite a few other people as it resulted in 2 Labour folk being kicked out. I've since found out the LD's are just as self serving as the last lot. I really do believe the system of councillors isn't working and should be scrapped.

And why we are about it why not run govt. from a website and use the savings to top up our pensions. That parliament building should make a nice hostel!

I like Blair and I think he has done GREAT things for this country

The Iraq was was massively mis-managed and I would not have this opinion if I lived in Iraq of course

But I think that Blair is fab and he has had made great achievements

I mean even now I am looking up these marriage laws and it's all about civil partnership - brought in by ermmmm who was it now

that's right Mr Tony Blair, ladies and gentlemen! We effectively have gay marriage in this marvellous country now - if that isn't a great thing then I don't know what is

plummymummy · 30/10/2006 22:18

Boowila, I don't see how I was hijacking the thread. You claimed Mr Brown (who I care not a fig for by the way) wanted to turn Britain into a Nanny State. I was interested in this because (as I explained)I perceive the US to be more so. It wasn't a personal attack. Obviously on this site you get to know a little bit about people's views and their background and I think it's reasonable to incorporate that into discussions. Perhaps it is not what I said, but the way in which I said it that offended you.
