Little boy has been removed from hospital by his parents

He is very sick, needs constant treatment. His parents have taken him to France.

I don't understand why the hospital didn't notice or alert the police for 6 hours.

The police won't comment on the parents being Jehovah's Witnesses.

It sounds wrong when the statement said he was removed without consent. The child is theirs, should be allowed to be in charge of him, but of course it is he that will lose his life if not cared for and that isn't in his best interests necessarily.

I hope he is found and can be cured.

prh please don't put words in my mouth thanks very much. I was pointing out that a pretty well respected health journalist said this in her piece (but actually come to think of it I would not be surprised if she was briefed along those lines by SGH). I then went on to concur that it is a common attitude among SOME medical practitioners; those who really excel are those who know medicine and also know how to deal with patients. Hope that clears things up for you.

an extradition lawyer has huts said that if the CPS without their European Arrest Warrant the parents would have no case to answer so would be released from custody in Spain

I suppose the matter of being a ward of the High Court is a separate issue that would have to be reviewed by that court.

meddie · 01/09/2014 17:27

Terrible sad case and a real breakdown in communication and trust between the parents. Though difficult to know the full story as the hospital cannot give their side of it due to confidentiality
I can sort of understand the hospitals initial concerns though. if the child is totally NG fed then they werent to know that the parents had obtained supplies from the internet, so I suppose as far as they were concerned the parents might not have had enough feed,
Also we dont know whether the parents are trained in replacing NG tubes or even had spare NG tubes,or the means to test the tubes position so they could be certain Ayesha wasnt at risk of aspiration of feeds. so concerns were valid at the time.
But it seems to have rapidly escalated and now its just downright cruel to keep them away from their child. they have enough police presence there, supervised contact could be arranged.

Troels - I simply pointed out that you had quoted this article on the thread. I then said something about the article (my own view of it) and that some people were reacting to your post as if the authorities had made the statement, not a journalist. I did not say that you were reacting in that way. Indeed, the only thing I said about you was that you had quoted this article, which is undoubtedly true. I fail to see how that is putting words in your mouth.

I don't feel it's even sufficient now to reunite the parents with their son and permit him to receive Proton B. I believe this case is so worrying that an enquiry into the actions of those agencies involved must be held.

Nothing at all justifies the way these parents have been treated and this is compounded by the fact that even though any sane person knows there has been a miscarriage in this case the parents are STILL in prison.

Is there one sensible person left this country who h the authority to right this wrong?

Come on Cameron. Stop pissing about trying to take passports off terrorists when you know the European court sill make you give them straight back to them and do something useful for a change

MiscellaneousAssortment · 01/09/2014 17:56

MrsDeVere how odd they wanted you to talk about something unrelated and ignored the actual link in your life experiences. I'd have found it a bit upsetting / unsettling and hope you didn't Flowers

The authorities involved are probably not telling us whether there are 'other reasons' for holding the parents longer as they're trying to dig something up.

If there is anything other than what we know already, the least they could have said is that there are undisclosed reasons for the warrants/ arrests and all other legal stuff going on. It's easy to say, "There are other reasons but we are unable to disclose these as it may come to trial" or some guff along those lines. I don't believe there is anything else so far, as this would have been said to calm some of the ill feeling.

The effect this is having on the poor child's health...he must be so scared. I just hope it all ends in the parents' original objective, which was the proton therapy - and faster than it would have been otherwise. Although this wait must feel interminable for them, I am sure also it's going to speed things up (eternal optimist, me!).

Has this thread disappeared from the 'In the News' section or is it just me?

zinher · 01/09/2014 18:16

OMG just saw this on the beeb. Why are the parents in prison?

MerryMarigold · 01/09/2014 18:19

all we need now are some politicians to come along and point score about Europe.

Oooh, I love that comment!

Meanwhile, a very ill little boy who doesn’t speak Spanish is in a hospital far from home. He is neither with his siblings nor his parents, who have been effectively criminalised for their distress. And possibly their faith. If anything looks like neglect I am afraid it is this.
Sums it up really.

Isn't it sad that some of us hold these agencies in such contempt not just because of this case but because we have been subjected to similar treatment.

We need a real overhaul of public services in this country We could start by making Honesty a key tenet in all their actions

MerryMarigold · 01/09/2014 18:19

zinher, you'll have to RTFT to see how it unfolds.

TroelsNextCampaignManager · 01/09/2014 18:22

MrsDV as always am in awe of your strength - more fool the beeb for not getting your real opinions. Hope the next few days go as well as possible for you and yours.

prh I think people's reactions were more about their own experiences of people in the medical profession having this opinion, actually, rather than a perception that this was what the doctors had said publicly in this case. Of course, there MAY be a difference between the language the hospital is using in the public arena and what they may be saying off the record to interested journalists.

TroelsNextCampaignManager · 01/09/2014 18:28

I also keep meaning to say - Jaded and Hurr1cane - I wish you both strength and hope the future is positive. hugs

TroelsNextCampaignManager · 01/09/2014 18:36
