Little boy has been removed from hospital by his parents

He is very sick, needs constant treatment. His parents have taken him to France.

I don't understand why the hospital didn't notice or alert the police for 6 hours.

The police won't comment on the parents being Jehovah's Witnesses.

It sounds wrong when the statement said he was removed without consent. The child is theirs, should be allowed to be in charge of him, but of course it is he that will lose his life if not cared for and that isn't in his best interests necessarily.

I hope he is found and can be cured.

The fathjer's very clear coherent video on youtube to which I linked above said ht was told by the doctors they would proceed with radiotherapy and chemo which we know often handicaps the child for life and he was NOT given time to remortgage his house to raise funds to take the child to the clinic in the Czech republic for proton treatment. That is why he was left with no choice but the take the child away as the hospital said they would get a court order to force the radiotherapy on the boy.

But that wasn't his only choice. He could have refused to consent to the radiotherapy and, when the hospital applied to the court, the parents could have brought all their own evidence in favour of exploring the proton beam option. And the hospital has said that they were happy for the parents to get a second opinion and to help them to access alternative therapy. After all, if it was all about money, the hospital would probably have been delighted to allow the parents to fund treatment abroad.

I haven't seen anything about a Emergency Protection Order - has one been obtained?

NeedsAsockamnesty · 31/08/2014 21:32

I wasn't looking at the any who claimed to be working in that field just noticing the user names of posters who over the years it's become very very obvious they do, they are usually seen on anti child snatcher threads debunking the nonsense that routinely comes up on the topic, I have never and I repeat never ever seen any of them come on a thread and say what they have on this one.

potbellyroast · 31/08/2014 21:43

icimoi yes that would be the rational thing to do you would think. Sat on my sofa, drinking nice glass of Shiraz, after tucking up my healthy children in bed.

Or.....Sat on a hospital ward for weeks on end, sleep deprived, stressed, worried beyond belief, talk of court orders and refusing access to your child. Worried about spending time with your sick child rather than the other 6 at home.

Maybe I would have made that decision had I been in their position.

Greengrow · 31/08/2014 21:47

Ici, for many parents that is not much of a choice - spend £5k to £20k on legal fees and lose against the hospital or take the boy abroad to protect him? Not surprising they took the later choice.

DuelingFanjo · 31/08/2014 21:54

We're you aware of the Neon Roberts case at all?

They know full well the courts would give the doctors the power and that seeking treatment abroad would not happen.

The DM article days the parents have now been transferred to Madrid for their extradition hearing.

Do the authorities have any idea of the damage they are doing to themselves?

This is one of the most shocking cases I have ever read about.

The State is abusing this child and his family and I am ashamed at what is bring done.

potbellyroast · 31/08/2014 22:09

ici you won't see anywhere confirmation of an emergency protection order as they are sought and given in secret. No one is allowed to report on it.

NeedsAsockamnesty · 31/08/2014 22:11

ici

Is it not highly likely that the family heard "we could get a court order" and thought they wouldn't stand much of a chance of fighting it?

So many people genuinely believe that if 'authority' wants to do something then it can. Even though the reality is they most likely would not succeed in obtaining the court order how would the family know that. Perhaps they thought getting legal advice would take treatment funds away from the child or take time he did not have, perhaps they were scared or lost trust in the hospital.

So many reasons and I'm not sure even parents who have had a child seriously ill could say exactly how someone should react under such stress because everybody will be different when experiencing trauma

GimmeMySquash · 31/08/2014 22:15

I just watched the BBC News. The parents have asked for people to pray for their Son.

I agree with the pp, the state is abusing this boy, and his family from his siblings, to his parents up to his Grandmother. We as tax payers support this and vote those to carry this through, be it local/central government or police.

As the JW who came to visit me would say, this system will not last for ever, one thing I agree with them is one day this will all end.

WetAugust · 31/08/2014 22:18

There is a picture on twitter that I don't have the skill to link to that shows the parents being transported in handcuffs.

All this is doing is just highlighting the shortfalls in the NHS and demonstrating that the State has not one ounce of compassion for a family separated from their terminally ill son.

And still this farce rumbles on.....

I only hope the Spanish judge throws out the UKs extradition request.

There MUST be an enquiry junto this mess.

Yes handcuffs. The picture is also on the Sky News home page.

So far the petition has received over 5000 signatures and Their PayPal account is suspended, presumably because it's being deluged. I hope they get the £90000 they need. I just hope that by the time they have raised the funds they are not sitting in a remand cell in the UK unable to access that private treatment.

Cases like this do unimaginable damage to the way the public perceive the Police! NHS etc. You would have thought that someone in G out would have woken up to this by now even if it is a Sunday.

very very depressing and sinister

GimmeMySquash · 31/08/2014 22:40

You know one thing the authorities would never have predicted was the nation backing JW parents, that backfired on them.

potbellyroast · 31/08/2014 22:41

What's the number of signatures needed for the govt to look into it? I was looking at one for Ben Needham the other week and I seemed to think it was 100,000? Maybe I've added another 0? Hopefully I have and the number is 10,000.

WetAugust · 31/08/2014 22:46

I don't know the trigger number for these petitions

I am very surprised that it's been allowed to snowball in this way. Watching the parents of a terminally ill child be led about handcuffed to each other is simply barbaric.

These parents deserve an unreserved apology for this abuse they are being subjected to

I just can't find the words anymore

LatteLoverLovesLattes · 31/08/2014 22:55

It is beyond belief :(

The little boy they are supposedly protecting (by they I mean the hospital/police etc) have separated him from the very thing he needs most - his parents. Barbaric bastards.

I don't - at this stage - care whether the parents are right or wrong to have done what they did, I just think that little boy needs his parents, the rest of this crap can be sorted out while he is being held by one of them at least :( Or at the very very fucking least one of his older siblings.

Bakeoffcakes · 31/08/2014 23:02

So 1400 children were abused in Rotherham until as recently as last year and the police did nothing, yet all these resources are being put into arresting parents who are trying to do the best for their son. I also wonder how much this has all cost- I expect it would cover the proton treatment which was asked for in the first place.

I can't stop thinking of that little boy without his parents. Poor poor boy.

GimmeMySquash · 31/08/2014 23:03

I saw the twitter feed linked to previously, JH has been in touch with them.

Florencewinifred · 31/08/2014 23:05

Can someone start a thread with the online petition in the title and a link to it.. I don't know how to do it! May increase exposure. Probably would be best in the 'chat' thread. Completely unreservedly shocking the entire piece. Makes me embarrassed to be British and live under this 'regime'.

rainbowinmyroom · 31/08/2014 23:08

Meanwhile, a cancerous tumour is growing in their child's brain.
