Have dd1(4) on a booster seat and dd2 (8months)is in a forward facing Britax eclipse.
I heard something on the lunchtime news about children under the age of one needing to be seated in a rear facing car seat???

The new regulations say that you must use a child restraint for children up to 135 cm (or 12 years) and that it must be suitable for your child's weight.

So, for e.g. if your DD1 is over 15kg then a booster seat is fine, but less than that and she should still be in a front facing Group II seat.

If your DD2 is under 9kg then she should be in a Group 1 seat which are usally rearward facing until they reach 9kg even if you can then turn them round (but I do not know about the britax Eclipse).

new car seat law

Beauregard · 15/09/2006 20:52

well dd1 is about 3 stone so i think thats over 15 kg(thick)and dd2 is about 22pound so is over 9kg .
Thanks
I just panicked a bit because there is always some new way of doing things and it scares me into thinking that im not doing the best by my dd's.

When you say booster seat, do you mean a booster cushion? Or a full seat? Unless she's over 22kg, it should be a full booster seat. (I have to weigh DS1 tomorrow, as I think we've lost the back for our full booster seat, might have to borrow the spare one from the PILs.)

15kg is 2 stone 4 and 9 kg is about 20lbs so you are fine.

FrayedKnot · 15/09/2006 20:59

Yes sorry it is right about teh booster seat, with a back, until they are 22kg.
