I despair at Israel sometimes

Well, often really. I have family out there who have a bomb shelter in their house and have had to evacuate for weeks at a time so I have great sympathy for ordinary Israelis trying to go about their lives. What happened to 3 sch

"Arrogant bully" oh please. You are off your trolley. Hamas are the bullies and the real victims are their own people. If you want freedom in the Middle East, you support Israel. End of discussion. They are the only free country in the region by any measure you can come up with. The people responsible for the plight of the Palestinians (and the plight of the people suffering in Iran, Saudi, Iraq, or any other country in the Middle-East are the theocratic dictators that oppress their own people and when challenged, point fingers at Israel and the United States and say "it's their fault".

cleanmean · 13/07/2014 19:43

The blacks in South Africa were told to stop fighting back too, as were the Jews in nazi germany, the Indians during British rule and the Rwandans. These tyrannised groups were told to accept the status quo because they would not be able to fight it and win.

Israel will put up a fight but it's tyranny and apartheid will have to end.

Backinthering · 13/07/2014 19:58

So basically if the Palestinians don't want to get blown to bits, they should accept living in a tiny remaining fragment of their existing land, blockaded in, with settlers stealing their land. They should accept another country controlling their borders and their water supply.
They should accept all this without protest for the privilege of not having their homes blown up and their families killed.
Can Israel's cheerleaders really not see how insane that sounds?
Also, for all the Israelis like to justify their genocidal activities as self-defense, I've heard the way that Israelis speak about Palestinians and it's dehumanising. I saw the pictures of people with popcorn, cheering as the bombs fell. IDF soldiers kill children who throw stones. They give families seconds to evacuate homes. And then they lie about it, blatantly, on news interviews.
I don't think the Israelis have a damn leg to stand on when it comes to claiming that Hamas want to wipe them out of existence, as they terrorise further an already traumatised poopulation.
I'm shocked that anyone can defend this, but then again when major US and UK outlets completely distort the scenario to make it sound like a dispute between two equal sides, rather than a heavily armed country bringing it's military might to bear on what's essentially a bunch of refugees, then that's what happens.
I hope people will start to see the truth, thanks to social media and decent reporting by news outlets like Al Jazeera, who actually have reporters in Gaza witnessing what is going on rather than relying on IDF spokespeople.

A Mandela quote:
".... nor because I have any love of violence. I planned it as a result of a calm and sober assessment of the political situation that had arisen after many years of tyranny, exploitation, and oppression of my people by the Whites."

Just take off whites and replace with Israel. Quite aptly describes the Palestinian situation.

TucsonGirl · 13/07/2014 21:31

How dare Israel control THEIR OWN BORDER with Palestine! How dare they have the temerity to take steps to ensure nuclear or chemical weapons are not smuggled into Palestine under guise of it being aid. It's almost like they actually want to prevent their own people from being killed! How "evil". They should be more like Hamas who don't give a shit about their own people, they are just martyrs for the cause, as their leaders stuff their pockets (Arafat was a billionaire, remember?) while the populace are just (collateral damage) who are worth more dead than alive.

Backinthering · 13/07/2014 21:40

Do the Palestinians not also have the right to control their (every-shifting as their land lessens) borders? Clearly not as there is now a ground incursion of IDF troops into Gaza.
The hypocrisy is staggering. Palestinians, nukes? They've got stones and home-made rockets. Guess who does have nukes though?
Care to comment on the 170 dead by the way? The woman with cerebral palsy? The toddler with half his head missing? The woman of 80?
Pro-Israelis keep saying how it's all the Palestinians fault, they are just defending themselves - yet the reality is that the people who are violently dead so far in the current conflict are Palestinian, only Palestinian.
But somehow that reality is not to get in the way of the Israel-as-good-guy rhetoric.

Backinthering · 13/07/2014 21:42

No country has the right to defend themselves by using collective punishment against unarmed civilian populations with nowhere to run to.
There's a name for that. And it's not self-defense.

justasecond · 13/07/2014 21:49

You can show as much faux outrage as you like Tuscon, the world is just not buying it anymore. Israel is and agressive shameless bully and fast on its way to becming a pariah state with or without US support. I am interested to know what in your view of the world, the palestinians should do?

justasecond · 13/07/2014 21:50

What I mean is what would you do if you were a Palestinian?

TheHoneyBadger · 13/07/2014 22:12

we are not drinking the kool aid.

the hypocrisy is stunning.

TheHoneyBadger · 13/07/2014 22:14

in their view if the palestinians want 'peace' they should put up and shut up and face gradual extinction via genocide and never ever dare to fight back in any form - be that a rocket or a child firing a stone. if they fight back at all they will be murdered quicker.

the faux concern for hamas hurting their own people - the very people who israelis have been hurting for fifty years without regret is sickening.

cleanmean · 13/07/2014 22:21

Tucson the reason for this genocide is that IT IS NOT ISRAEL'S BORDER.

They have stolen another country and are now trying to ethnically cleanse. Shame on them and thanks to social media the world can now see first hand what hell the palestinians have been living in for decades.

justasecond · 13/07/2014 22:39

Hamas have just given them their latest most convenient excuse to kill off a few more Palestinians. This has been going on for decades, long before the Palestinians voted in Hamas out of desperation. I read a piece yesterday where a Palestinian woman said they (Israelis) come along every couple of years and kill a load of us then its quiet for a bit. What else can their objectives be when rehab centres and homes for disabled people are being targeted and no I am not buying the "but they are storing weapons in there" argument. Where is the proof?

MexicanSpringtime · 13/07/2014 22:53

Another one here totally shocked at the genocide being practiced on the Palestinians and at the idea that anyone thinks it is ok to do it.

TucsonGirl · 13/07/2014 23:09

It is Israels border. They fought and won a war for it. The same as just about every other country in the world. Are there any other countries you think should give back land they won in wars? Should Strasbourg be given back to Germany, for instance?

"Palestinians, nukes? They've got stones and home-made rockets. Guess who does have nukes though?"

Israel does. Have they used them? No. If Hamas had a nuke would they show the same restraint? Take a wild guess. They've always used every kind of every weapon they can get their hand on, and don't give a shit who they hit with them.

The amount of ignorance shown on this thread is absolutely unbelievable. Just mindless fuckwittedness leftism at its absolute worst. I'm very grateful that it's thankfully only very, very few people who think this way.

Yruapita · 13/07/2014 23:24

tuscon you are deluded thinking that we who stand against oppression are the minority. You are wrong to think that the world is not on the Palestinian side. The leaders are silent, but their people are not

We wholeheartedly condemn Israel for its genocide.
We condemn Israel for its blood thirst

Israel.....
The Palestinian people will resist until you kill every last child!
You are not big and strong killing their children, you are a sick, mad, deluded, ignorant, genocidal, dehumanising, criminal, inhumane, land grabbing Goliath. You have blood on your hands.

TucsonGirl · 13/07/2014 23:24

Quick question. One word answer is all that is required. As a woman, which country would you prefer to live in. Israel, or Palestine?

justasecond · 13/07/2014 23:26

What has that go to do with it Tuscon? Israel has created the inhumane living conditions in Palestine

Yruapita · 13/07/2014 23:28

Mandela 1960s: There are thousands of people who feel that it is useless and futile for us to continue talking peace and non-violence — against a government whose only reply is savage attacks on an unarmed and defenceless people.

Palestine today.

Here here cleanmean, I have been amazed by the power of social media in the last week.

TusconGirl I would argue that it really isn't very very few people who feel the way I do (and many others on this thread), people are gathering in their thousands around the world to condemn what israel is doing.

Now thousands are fleeing Gaza but what about those who have no where to go? What are they supposed to do?

I'm astounded at the lack of humanity being shown by supporters of Israel.

TucsonGirl · 13/07/2014 23:33

"What has that go to do with it Tuscon? Israel has created the inhumane living conditions in Palestine"

In response to Hamas a political party who's raison d'etre is to wipe the state of Israel off the map". What would you have them do, justasecond? How many Israelis do Hamas have to kill before some kind of action to prevent it is justifiable. Would a nuclear device seal the deal? Or not even that?

I honestly cannot comprehend the mentality of the anti-Israel brigade. It's just absolutely mind-boggling, the ideological gymnastics you have to go through to come up supporting a regime that goes against everything else they claim to stand for.

justasecond · 13/07/2014 23:35

Wow Tuscon really?

I am reporting your post.

justasecond · 13/07/2014 23:36

...In fact I might not so people an see what the Israeli rhetoric really amounts to.

TucsonGirl · 13/07/2014 23:37
