I despair at Israel sometimes

Well, often really. I have family out there who have a bomb shelter in their house and have had to evacuate for weeks at a time so I have great sympathy for ordinary Israelis trying to go about their lives. What happened to 3 sch

Israel are not dogs, how fucking rude are you?

They are a nation defending themselves

Springheeled · 13/07/2014 09:58

anyaknowit it amazed me that you have the gall the post your hatred after a centre for the disabled was bombed - somehow I don't reckon five minutes would have been enough there either. You're still banging on your hatred after images of children with half their heads missing thanks to the Israeli govt. You're a cheerleader for these atrocities and you are blind with ignorant hatred. I pity you.

Why should Israel just accept rockets? Hmm these mega dangerous rockets that are intercepted or fall on open ground? These rockets that are no match for US lent 'flesh melting' bombs that Israel is now trialling on children and the disabled? They shouldn't have to accept them, no. So they should be seeking a peaceful solution to the issue. And don't give me 'you can't negotiate with terrorists': governments the world over have done so. It is the only way.
But anya you probably thought the ANC were terrorists and that the apartheid regime was justified!!

cleanmean · 13/07/2014 10:14

You started the analogy anya 'poke a dog with a stick....'

I wonder how the supporters of Israel will feel when the apartheid ends? Will they look back on History and feel ashamed?

Is was always highly unlikely that abbas and Netanyahu would liaise over the initial murders. The destabilisation currently in the region means that no one has been able to intervene. Turkey has now asked for an end to the violence but this may be too little too late. The tide is turning in the world and I hope this is the path to freedom for palestine.

Backinthering · 13/07/2014 10:27

How on earth are the Palestinians meant to negotiate anything like fair terms from a position of such utter weakness and oppression?
It's down to Israel, as the one with all the power, to concede here. The Palestinians have nothing left to concede.
Israel clearly doesn't want to though.
I stopped thinking a two-state solution would work years ago.
Death toll has now passed 170.

AnyaKnowIt · 13/07/2014 10:58

Erm what hatred have I posted?

AndHarry · 13/07/2014 10:58

Does anyone know if Turkey still has a 'zero problem neighbourhood' foreign policy? I know they did a few years ago but that was before the leadership went a bit crazy.

How about stop firing rockets and trying to hit airports and nuclear station for a start?

AnyaKnowIt · 13/07/2014 11:19

When I used the word dog, I meant y'know the animal. Never thought I would have to explain that...

Springheel, what makes you come to that conclusion?

Backinthering · 13/07/2014 11:19

How about we talk about the contexts of these rockets and why this is what Hamas is resorting to?
Any comment on the dead women and children in Gaza?

AnyaKnowIt · 13/07/2014 11:24

Yes let's talk about the rockets then. Over 600 have been launched over the last few weeks.

cleanmean · 13/07/2014 11:29

With how many casualties anya?

AndHarry · 13/07/2014 11:32

There are many reasons - not excuses - for the rockets. Among others:

  1. Some Palestinians believe that they are firing against an occupying power and that all Israelis are combatants as they are part of that occupying force and that they will win freedom by doing so.

  2. Others are doing it to register their frustration at the denial of basic human rights to themselves and their compatriots and their lack of power to otherwise do anything about it.

  3. Some participate reluctantly due to peer and family pressure.

  4. Others for revenge of their dead compatriots.

  5. Some because they have been brainwashed by extremists.

  6. Some because they are wicked people who delight in terror and bloodshed.

Everyone should be against group 6. Everyone else could be reasoned with given the right conditions, which I don't think will happen in this generation.

And what of the 1000 plus rockets Israel has launched in 5 days killing 170, injuring over 900 and destroying thousands of homes hospitals mosques rehab centres ambulances...

I look forward to your comment.

donnie · 13/07/2014 11:33

Anya do you think it is ok that Israel keeps building illegal settlements in the west bank? and stealing Palestinian homes, land and farms as it does so? Would you just 'lie down like a dog and accept it'? or retaliate?

AnyaKnowIt · 13/07/2014 11:34

Self defence

donnie · 13/07/2014 11:34

I look forward to your comment too.

donnie · 13/07/2014 11:36

PMSL @ that pathetic two word answer Grin. I was expecting it though. No word then, Anyaknowit, on the illegal settlements and sustained land theft? you ok with that then?

ColgateSmile · 13/07/2014 11:38

The line that Israel is defending itself would make me laugh if the consequences weren't so horrific.

Nearly 200 people have died in Gaza since Tuesday, the majority of those people were civilians... Children, disabled people, elderly people, good god they are people like us... How is it so easy for some people to lose sight of this??

cleanmean · 13/07/2014 11:39

Andharry yes we must all condemn those who delight in terror and bloodshed.

There is some hope though, I have seen and heard of demos across the world. A group of Jewish people have organised a fast for peace which I think takes place next week where they will fast alongside Muslims observing ramadan to pray for peace in Palestine, and it is a great message to the world to see rabbis walking alongside imams at peace marches like the one in London. If anything good can come from this massacre it must be that palestine will one day be free and have a right to return.

Bambambini · 13/07/2014 11:42

I think this exactly what Hamas wanted and think nothing of the body count of their own people. They use it to strengthen their support and to get the condemnation worldwide for their enemy.

I think any condemnation should should be as much for Hamas as that for The Israeli government.

AnyaKnowIt · 13/07/2014 11:44

Oh I'm so sorry, I didn't know there was a word count needed for my reply.

AnyaKnowIt · 13/07/2014 11:45

As for the illegal settlements, take it to the UN. Don't fire of rockets

AndHarry · 13/07/2014 11:46

There has to be a better way of destroying weapon stockpiles than blasting innocents to smithereens.

AnyaKnowIt · 13/07/2014 11:46

AnyaKnowIt · 13/07/2014 11:50

How, hamas are using their own people as human shields?
